I saw these speakers on auction and thought this is a super deal, but I want to know what others think. Should I bid on them?

In my opinion, you probably know 1000X more than most of the people posting here (myself included) so you may be asking the wrong crowd.

Apparently these speakers retail for 1200 so the current auction price does appear to be very attractive. However, having some small experience with auction sites I am aware that many bidders like to wait until the last possible moment to bid. So althought the price is good now you may find that very close to the end of the auction time bidding may become frequent and intense and that the final winning bid may end up being very close to the retail price. Monitor the site and see how things go. It is always possible that the bidding won't go much higher and that you may end up with a good deal. Good luck.

For the budget conscious it's a fairly good speaker. Although they don't need a subwoofer, I would recommend using one if you like orchestral music, organ music, DNB music, or other music that tends to have lower bass. I would leave the grill on them even if you prefer the look of them off. Because the highs are kind of shrill & the grill helps smooth out the brilliance.

They are forgiving about placement, so you don't need to spend much energy on where to set them up in the room for good dynamics. This is probably due to how thin they are, but only a guess on my part.

For the price ($1200 msp) they look cheap, since they are covered with plastic (vinyl?) contact paper instead of veneer or being made of solid hard wood. But if your more concerned with sound quality than looks, that shouldn't be a problem.

The company recommends bi-wiring them, but bi-wiring tends to screw up the overall coherence of a speaker.

The speakers sound bigger than they look. They lack the punch of full sized speakers, but they make up for it in their clear well rounded mids & highs. Maybe that's because all three drivers are made of the same material.

Over all, I'd say for the price they're good speakers, but if you're willing to spend a little more money you can get much better sounding speakers. And for their size I was as impressed with their sound as I was in the 1970s when I heard the Bose 901. (Yes I know Bose? But back than speakers that small didn't sound very good.)

I would check this out with COmsumers Magazine on line and see what they say about the product and manufaturer. You could be getting ripped off

I don't think that is a deal at all. Bose makes a much better product for about the same money.
