It doesn't tell me in the packaging and I can't find it on the internet.

it could be the microphone. thats the way my camera was built, but the instructions never said it was a microphone. I had to take it in to a dealer to find out. good Luck!

From what I've read about the camcorder and because I don't have one in front of me, I can only guess that it is the jack for the AV cable to hook the camera up to your TV. It should have come with one and I'm guessing it looks like a headphone jack on the end that plugs into the camcorder. The other end probably splits into the standard red, white and yellow jacks (or combination there of). I hope this helps!
