I currently have very nice oak cabinets and white appliances. My walls currently have green/burgandy sponge painting all over white walls and burgandy trim with a burgandy/green border near the ceiling. It is too loud for me. I was thinking of painting the walls a creamy soft yellow. I don't want to change the burgandy trim if I don't have to. Also, I was thinking of changing the flooring to either terrecotta colored tiles (or lineloum) or maybe a neutral/beige tile. It is a rather large kitchen with medium sunlight, but very nice receding lights in ceiling. I also have an oak island in the middle of the room, and a white table and white chairs with oak legs. Your thoughts would really help me. Thanks!

BK

P.S. Can I paint directly over the sponge painting?

I recently painted my kitchen "Oklahoma Wheat" by Behr paint. I love it. It's a very soft yellow.

My kitchen before was gold, YES GOLD! It was way too bright. I did have to KILZ the walls before painting the new color - but this saves lots of time by first adding the Kilz primer.

Good luck to you!

Try the Kilz 2 paint. it is a paint with the primer built in. It comes in a wide variety of colors. So a nice light yellow should be easy to get. You can get it for about $16.95 a gallon at Walmart. I have used it many times and it has been great. This should cover in one coat but over the burgandy may take two coats. I think a nice creamy yellow would look nice. Just make sure it doesn't get to yellowy as then it will look way to bright with burgandy trim. If you are wanting to keep the burgandy trim I would choose a burgandy/cream homespun fabric for curtains, chair pads... Maybe an apple theme would be nice. However this would be kind of a country look and we don't know if that is what you like.

Get some kills primer and paint over sponge paint. Then paint it yellow.Get a couple of differnt yellows before putting on wall it could be a little tricky color to pick. I have a yellow kitchen with white appliences and i love it. Change the floor to tiles, lineloum is ugly tile will be much better. Have fun.

your counters are white & that ought to throw off your decor once you've not something else white because the counters may completely stand out. attempt doing the bottom or top 1/2 of the wall a coloration that is going w/ both the floor & wallpaper, the different 1/2 of the wall white -- it would not should be staggering white.... masks off the horizontal center the position the hues will meet even as portray. then you genuinely can get some decrease priced chair rail to nail up which willl conceal the line the position the hues meet. also, roosters at the instantaneous are not quite tuscan decor...get some old decrease priced plates off ebay to carry close......dried herb or flower bunches, etc.....

You can and SHOULD paint over the sponge painting. :) Sponge painting is tacky!

A soft yellow is a great color for a kitchen. I would pick a neutral beige floor rather then terra cotta.

I love the color of Buttermilk. I believe that is the actual name of the color.
