No, it is not possible to dye the material while still on the chair over foam. Measure the cushions for fabric with excess. Buy fabric and foam (fabric store). Cut out fabric squares to fit leave room to trim. My chairs needed a 2'x2' square. Turn the chair over and remove the 4 screws underneath. Remove existing fabric and pad from the particleboard base. Remember to mark the holes that you take the screws out of with the marker so that you don't cover them with foam or fabric. Replace existing pad because it will be compressed and dirty. Trace shape and size of existing pad onto new foam with a permanent marker. Slice pad to fit chair base with a large sharp kitchen knife. Apply foam to the base and cover with fabric fold the corners using a hospital corner. Staple fabric tightly to the base and replace base to chair and screw it down. Total cost of project for highest quality foam and fabric 6 chairs was $100. Could be significantly less if the highest quality materials were not used.

Good luck

Removing those cushions is really the way to go. Usually they are held on by 4 screws that you remove by turning the chair upside down. Once those cushions are off, you can either put new material on or removed the existing material so that you can dye it. I would strongly recommend that you not try to dye the material on the chair.

No. Assuming you have removable covers, Your gonna have to remove them and buy a washing machine dye, thats the easiest solution. If you haven't got removable covers you've not no hope and would be better off buying replacement covers. Not being funny but how did you think you would be able to dye them without taking the material off, it would make one hell of a mess over the carpet etc
