I was thinking of dying my hair black at the bottom, my natural hair colour is dirty blond. I know it will be quite a contrast, but I want something that will stand out. My hair is currently red at the bottom but it is very faded and I want it gone, will black dye over it or should I wait till I cut it out or something? If not black I was thinking blue. Does anyone have pictures of black and blonde/brown hair? Thanks. :)

Oh yeah, and I have tried simulating dye with mascara on some hair and I thought it looked okay so yeah don't know if that does anything.

To see what it would look like on you do this. First take a polaroid picture of yourself, or print one out on the computer. Then use a sharpie or a marker to color in where you want the color. It isn't completely acurate, but it will give you a good idea.

I dye my hair alot and I have naturally dirty blonde hair. Over the years of dyeing it darker colors, i've tried to dye it back lighter. It definately didnt work and actually only made it darker. So if you were to dye your hair black over the red, it should work. And as far as blonde roots and black tips go, I think it'd look okay if you did it the right way. But if I was you, Id get it professionally done since thats such a major contrast. You might end up looking like a skunk! :(

Don't go blue on blonde hair, my two blue streaks are enough! Yes, may be you could go black at the bottom but give it some serious though, or try a wash in wash out one first before you go for it. Or may be you could go black underneath and some would still show through, or black highlights?

Well you have dirty blonde hair, it would look OKAY if you put black at the bottom, but what I did during summer is dyed my hair blonde and then on the inside layer i dyed it dark brown. on the top layers i put lighter colored highlights [bleach blonde] and it looked verrry pretty in my opinion.

It can be a good look. Terri Nunn (singer for the 80's band Berlin) had that style back in the day. Try googling her name to get some pics.
