I'm getting over a cold, which I had for about a week. I still have a sort of runny nose, and whenever I blow my nose, my left ear makes weird sounds, like I'm blowing it too. My ear doesn't hurt, and I can hear out of it, but it's freaking me out a little. What's going on? Should I be worried?

You are most likely experiencing Tinnitus.

Ringing. Buzzing. Roaring. Whooshing. Chirping. Beating. Humming. While you may enjoy these sounds in nature, they're no fun when they're coming from inside your own head.

Head noise, or ringing in your ears (tinnitus), is common. Millions of people have some degree of tinnitus. For some of them, the ringing in their ears is distressing enough for them to seek medical help. But, tinnitus isn't a disease. It's a symptom that can be caused by a number of medical conditions. Tinnitus may be the result of age-related hearing loss or ear injury, or it may be an indication of a disease of your circulatory system.

You should never blow your nose too hard, esp. when you have a cold, as germs can be pushed into the Eustachian tube or the middle ear, causing infection ("otitis media"). You may have a build-up of mucus there, causing the weird sound. See a doctor and either get antibiotics (if it's bacterial) and have the doc check for a perforated ear-drum (which can also happen from blowing your nose).

You may just have a wax build-up or even calcium deposits in the inner ear (the latter causes dizziness). For the wax, any doctor or nurse, can wash your ear out w/warm water and a saline solution (it's painless and feels great!).

If it continues, you could have what's called tinnitus. That can happen off and on for your whole life. To my knowledge, there's no cure for it, but it isn't dangerous, just annoying. However, it sounds more like a "ringing" or "hooting" in your head.

I'ts probably nothing. Your ear may be clogged with wax. try cleaning it out. It may make a difference.

You should have your doctor look at your ear. However, no one should blow their nose too hard or they could rupture their ear drum and can lose their hearing from it.

You probably have a little fluid behind your eardrum, wait until you are completely over your cold, it should be gone.
