I asked Him that last Monday afternoon during His coffee break (yes, it was Choc full of Nuts) and He just shrugged his shoulders and said, "Cable was out and I had nothing else to do. Thought it might be fun. I guess I'll have to do something about cleaning up that mess."

If you are looking for a true answer...
He wanted a place for us (Humans) to enjoy. Unfortunately, sin came into the picture when a the first man and woman disobeyed him. This allowed Satan to become part of man's world. God realized that the physical world wouldn't last (with man chosen to hold on to sin), which is good because he created heaven also - a place where sin is not allowed because that's were he reigns.
Now, we are in the physical world, atoning for our sins and trying to help all those lost get to heaven with us.
