Major sponsors, ceo, celebrities, president of major companies, etc. they get invites, and if you are some regular Joe, well you need to know someone, like one of the PGA pros to get asked to play.. It is not free,, and not everyone get invited..

You have to be invited. From what I understand you have to have a index lower then 20 if you are invited to play. It also cost well over $10k to golf in the event.

yeah its sucks, the Am usually refers to Amatuer; anyone that's not a pro golfer, but also usually means celebrity. You either have to know someone for be famous enough for them to know you. I bet some celebrities even have a hard time getting in.
