We were just wondering the cost of the wedding in the church, if any, not including reception or anything.

All Catholic sacraments are offered at no cost. This includes the priest and the church. A donation would not, of course, be refused.

This does not include extras, like decorations, flowers, musicians, singers, etc.

With love in Christ.

It cost 200 dollars to have our wedding in our Catholic church because we signed up as parishioners of our church beforehand. It usually costs more if you (or your family) are not members of that particular church. You have to consider that during that time you are renting out a building and the lights are on, the heaters/ac are running etc. and all of these things cost money(which is included in that fee). You also have to pay for the rehearsal coordinator ($50-75) for your rehearsal the night before. Some priest will accept money for their services, others wont- it depends on who it is. Our priest was a family friend who did it for us for free. We invited him to the reception and later we sent him a $25 gift card to a restaurant and a $25 gift card to Barnes and Noble. Your priest (or church receptionist) will be able to tell you exactly what it costs). Our ceremony felt so official because we had it in the church- I think you will feel the same way. Good luck on your wedding and Congratulations!

Hi there Katie,

Every single church is going to have a different take on this. Seems wrong to have to pay for a sacrament though, doesn't it? lol. With us, the use of the church, cleaning, etc - Is $150, the organist is a seperate fee of $150. Looking at my papers, I don't see anything about a 'donation'. When my parents got married, all that was asked for was a monitary donation. They didn't say how much was acceptable or anything, they don't remember how much they gave either. Another friend went to another church where we live, and it was going to cost her around $900. Insane!

Good luck! :)

The wedding at the church will cost a donation. Usually its 100-200 dollars that goes towards the church. Anything else like decor etc you will have to pay for obviously.

The church where I am getting married is $125 "donation." There are extra fees for altar boys if you want to use them for communion ($5 each), and also an organist feee ($50). Contact your preist or the parish secretary and they will have more information. Most Catholic churches vary a little bit. Good luck!! :)

For my wedding (north of Boston, MA), the church costs:

church: $100
priest: $25-50 (Considered a "donation")
wedding planner: $85 (the church requires this)

I'm sure the prices vary place to place. Also, you have to consider the musicians (organist, singer, etc). They are probably the most expensive.

don't listen - to any of these...

Each parish is different. Call - and a lot do have a set fee, not a "donation" policy.

But make sure you ask for the hidden costs. Some churches are inexpensive to use their church/chapel but require you to use their organist, cantor, etc. which adds up.

It could be upwards of 500-700 for the whole thing.

Each Parish is different. The only reason there is a "tithe," is because of the electricity. People tend to forget that all the tithes in church is FOR the church....we need electricity to see and water...etc. It's better if you call the office and they should be able to tell you.

At my Church it was $150 for the active parishioners and $350 for the deadbeats, but you could not get married in our Church if you were not registered parishioners.

It should not cost anything considering its supposed to be the house of God, and the priests are there to serve not make money. If you are expected to pay for anything inside a church, then its time to ask them to direct you to which part in the bible where it says if exchanging money is ok in the house of God. (its not)
