* Sit upright in a chair and tilt your head slightly forward.
* Gently pinch your nose (just below the bony ridge) with a tissue or clean washcloth.
* Keep pressure on your nose for about 10 minutes; if you stop too soon, bleeding may start again. It may also help to apply ice wrapped in a paper towel.
* Do not lean back. This may cause blood to flow down the back of the throat, which tastes bad and may initiate gagging, coughing, or vomiting.
If the bleeding still continues, call your doctor and ask if you can come in for an appointment today or if you should go to the emergency room. You may need a blood vessel cauterized. Get someone to drive you.

Try drinking some cold water. Lie down, with your head tilted slightly back; and rest for another half hour or so.
If this is persistent or happens now and then, its wise to seek medical advice.
Some causes may be, the tissue in your nose may be thin for some reason, and vulnerable to small ruptures in the capillaries which may cause bleeding. Not anything to worry too much about.

This is what I do:
http://familydoctor.org/132.xml
whatever you do do not tilt your head backwards, it only makes the blood go down your throat and choke you.

Make an ice pack to put over your nose, and lay down.
How did it start? Injury? Sinus problem?
If there's no cause you know of, you need to see a doctor. You could have high blood pressure.

Lean your head back and pinch your nose between your fingers. Put an ice pack on the bridge of your nose.
Alternatively, you can go to the hospital and have a cerebral angiogram, where they will cannulate the Middle Connecting Artery and put particles in it to make it stop bleeding. (I've done it...it's pretty cool to watch!)

Try looking on the net, or going to a doctor, or calling one. A doctor may be able to recommend what to do. Try using a kleenex or something and tipping your head back, that is what people are usually supposed to do.
