Has anyone ever been? Where do I start? What are the airfare prices like? Where do I stay? What airline do I use? What's the best time of year to go? Any insight would be greatly appreciated...

If you are a nature lover then any tiem of the year is great to come dominica because 365 days a yr the island is green and beautiful but if you are looking for a little bit more and wann experience culture and a lil more night life then the Carnival and Independance times are the best times to come. The Carnival Celebrations starts several weeks before lent but the actual date of the Street jump up (which is always a Monday And a Tuesday) varies as this days are always the Monday and Tuesday before Ash wednesday ;in other words carnival is always before lent and when carnival occurs depends on how lent falls in that particular year.Independance time is great too because we have our World Creole Music festival at that time especially our cultural celebrations and competition.-that including cultural wear foood ,dance etc.
There are many types of accomdation in Dominica..Hotels,guesthouses,villas,etc some are located in the town while many are located out of town in the rainforest themselves. The webistes provided below will give u necassary info on all what i have stated above.hope ur vacation in Dominica is an enjoyable one.

I am from Dominica.
The airfare depends on where you are coming from...if you are in the US a good fare would be around $600...but do priceline and set your own price and you could maybe get one for around $400-$450.
There are a couple good hotels around...some suggestions are Jungle Bay Resort, Papillote Wilderness Retreat, Fort Young Hotel, Tambrind Tree Hotel...these are not the only good ones however.
We have year round tropical weather, but the best time to go would be the end of October-November because at that time you will experience a lot of our cultural activities and the World Creole Music Festival (last weekend of october).
Some places I suggest you visit are the Trafalgar Falls, Emerald Pool, The Boiling Lake, The Aerial Tram, The Sulphur Springs.

Let me know up if you need help planning the trip I have designed tours before.

This site will answer your questions, apart from the one about airfares, the answer to which, of course, depends where you are travelling from! http://72.14.253.104/search?q=cache:OCTXYcxi8eAJ:www.avirtualdominica.com/home.cfm+dominica&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=3&gl=us
If you are set upon whale watching, then you should be there now! Otherwise, look at the various attractions offered and decide which time is best for you.

If you find that it is easier to get flights to St Lucia, then you might like to know about the ferry service Express des Iles, for which you can obtain tickets at the harbour in Castries. Here are details: http://www.marinetalk.com/articles-marine-companies/com/LEXPRESS-DES-ILES-ATE-SA-ANT002.html. Even if you are not interested in this way of getting to Dominica, this ferry service would give you the opportunity of travel to Martinique and/or Guadeloupe. Dominica is between the two. However, the ferry does not stop at Dominica during the months of June, July and August because of hurricanes. That's one of the exciting things about this part of the Caribbean: whichever island you are on allows you to gaze on the next one in the distance!

Dominica is a majestic and beautiful island. You may know already that it was the setting for Jean Rhys's "The Wide Sargasso Sea". More recently, it was the location for "Pirates of the Caribbean.

Are you talking about the Dominican Republic? if so, since you have a lot of questions, a travel agent may help you. An agent helped with my Italy trip a few years ago, and she only charged me $50.00. She makes all the arrangements for you and will send you a packet of your tickets, etc. It seems like a travel agent will be able to answer all your questions. Also, a website I like to look at is tripadvisor.com. It will show you places to stay at your destination and reviews. I went to the Dominican Republic on my honeymoon in August/Sept. It was amazing. Good luck!
