"god can do what he wants.

he did it because of all the sin on the earth.

example: if you are working on a project and the whole thing gets messed up. then wouldn't you throw it away and start all over?"

Someone wrote this as an answer. Besides the UNcapitalized "god", is this what Christians are supposed to believe? Would any of you "throw away" your children?

With reference to the Old Testament, God shared with man His intention to do just that...10 times, at least. He was considering wiping the slate clean and starting over. However, the Bible states that He "repented" (changed His mind) about the decision and chose to do otherwise at times. Examples:
Genesis 6:6-8 (God only spared Noah/family)
Exodus 32:7-14 (The sin of the Israelites)
Judges 2:16-18 (Israel not obedient)
I Samuel 15:35 (God and King Saul)
2 Samuel 24:16 (God's mercy)
I Chronicles 21:15 (God's mercy)
Psalm 106:44-46 (God's mercy)
Jeremiah 26:19 (God and the king)
Amos 7:3-6 (God chose not to destroy)
Jonah 3:10 (God and Ninevah)
The closest God ever got to wiping the entire slate clean was during the flood of Noah. We have to always remember that God is soveriegn and that any author or artist of a project has sole ownership of that product and, therefore, has the right to keep it or destroy it at any time.
Just because that has not happened to this earth as yet does not mean it never will happen. As indicated in the scriptures shown above, God does respect the fervent desires of those who love and are close to Him, but He is not obligated to make any changes to His ultimate plan for mankind.

These are not correct. Here is the explanation of the flood of Noah:
Right up until Noah and the others entered the ark, "they were giving and taking in marriage".
To whom? Well, many angels, at the order of satan himself, left their habitations and came to earth, not through being born of woman, but as supernatural beings. You can read of them in the only chapter of Jude. Anyway, they married human women and children were being born from those unions. Noah was a preacher, who preached against them. What they really wanted was to get Noah's daughters to participate. Noah wouldn't allow that, of course.
The children born to these, were called "nephillim", or "geba" which translated means "giant". They were a people of large stature. Anyway, the reason they wanted Noahs daughters was simple: this was satan's second attempt (the first was in the garden) at polluting the pure bloodline, from which womb-to-womb would come the Christ.
So, God caused the flood to get rid of these hybrids. The flood was brought on to the world of the ungodly - not the entire world - but only in those areas where these hybrids were.
It was absolutely necessary, and so done.

God can only act within his nature. God has set his own boundaries----yes, even God must have boundaries. God will not violate those boundaries because he has made a covenant with himself and God is not a covenant breaker. We are not throw-aways. God does not toss us out like so much garbage. Humans mistakenly associate the nature of God with the nature of humans. God is sinless and humans are born in sin----the two are incompatible, which is why there is the blood of Jesus. the blood makes us compatible with God because the blood covers our sin. If God was not interested in saving us, then he would not have allowed anybody to survive the flood. God will always leave a remnant to carry on.

This is what I believe personally, we were all given free will to do what we want.God does not change our thought process or actions without our consent. When you have a large group of people, or even a small group of people or even one person who thinks alike, they create an energy that attracts to them a mental equivalent,IE good thoughts= good things. Carl Jung refered to this as the collective unconcious and I believe it is what is meant in the bible passage " those who live by the sword shall die by the sword" which makes each one of us responsible for our own circumstances.Unfortunately that does not mean that all good people have good things, you have to believe that you are worthy of good things," look not here nor there but the kingdom of heaven is within" and all bad people don't always get thier carmic punishment right away but it does come. The best you can ever do wether you are religous or not is to love yourself, the people around you and be as kind as possible to everyone else, this way you create a shield of protection, which I believe is what was meant by the bible passage " a thousand shall fall at your left and ten thousand shall fall at your right but near you it will not come.

In my opinion you are so far off that it would take alot of typeing to get you back on course.
Try a book like "Conversations with God" by Neale Donald Walsh. I think this could help. Peace.

The Old Testament God was a vengeful being, yet after the people who "worship" Him killed his only son, he became a being entirely of goodness. If I had a following and they killed my only son, I would become more vengeful. Makes no sense.

I certainly wouldn't "throw away" any of my children that were boys and left handed.

Do you know what a left handed pitcher can make playing baseball nowadays?

Mankind is not bound by God's rules... God makes the rules but if you choose not to follow them in this mortal world you are free to do so... until you begin to act as an enemy of God... then God is free to take you out of the game... it is His Game and His rules.... If you continue to not follow God's rules until you take your last conscious mortal breath... then... you lose the Game... of life... and you will be eternally separated from God...

Our minds can't begin to understand how all of this fits into God's plan but He says it does so until you can prove otherwise I think I stick with Him
