There is no such thing as a Westminster Rat Terrier. By the way, the Westminster Dog show is going to be on TV next Monday and Tuesday, a good place to see lots of breeds.

The Rat Terrier has been around for years. The were bred to be ratters - keep the rats out. They are going to be recognized by the AKC this year. The breed looks similar to the Toy Fox Terrier. The difference is in the size, head shape and some body features.

I've seen mid size and toy size Rat Terriers. They are athletic, smart, and fiesty. They are true terriers - good little dogs.

Last I checked Westminster was a kennel club, not a dog. A rat terrier is a small dog which has just recently been accepted into the AKC's foundation stock.

Paris Hilton's dog is a chihuahua, two totally different breeds. Here is the standard for the Rat Terrier http://www.ratterrierclub.com/standard/ A dog of any breed will bark alot if not properly trained or exercised.

I hope you aren't just looking for a dog to be "cool" like Paris. She is one of the biggest SPO's.

Do your research on a breed, and find one that fits your lifestyle, not just one that will look cool or fit in your purse.

It is in fact a small dog that catchs rats The ratting dogs were typically Terrier breeds, which included, but were not limited to, the Bull and Terrier, Bull Terrier, Fox Terrier, Jack Russell Terrier, Rat Terrier, Manchester Terrier and Staffordshire Bull Terrier. The degree of care used in breeding these ratters is clear in their pedigree with good breeding leading to increased business opportunities. Successful breeders were highly regarded and famous in those times.

They are small dogs, nothing like a Chihuahua (which Paris Hilton has) and a VERY active breed! If not given a lot of exercise, obedience training & firm rules, they can be very destructive & big barkers.
