Shouldn’t Christians actually thank atheists?
For some strange reason a multitude of atheists (who you would think would have better things to do with their time) frequent this R&S forum. They apparently take great delight in directing venomous ridicule and abuse at Christians (this is not surprising to us as we know very well who their real master is: Satan). However, perhaps Christians should actually thank them, because although any such persecution is not pleasant, they are unconsciously helping us to Heaven.
Lu 6:22 Blessed are ye, when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you from their company, and shall reproach you, and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of man's sake.
Lu 6:23 Rejoice ye in that day, and leap for joy: for, behold, your reward is great in heaven: for in the like manner did their fathers unto the prophets.

queenbee ......... 'the point Luke was trying to make'? I am sorry, but Luke was not trying to make any point, he was simply quoting the words of Jesus. If your theology classes taught you that Luke was expressing an opinion, there was something wrong with them.

queenbee .......... 'those who are not with Me are against Me' To deny the existence of God is against the first commandment, and is Satanic. So Satan is the master of atheists, even though they may not be aware of it.

Wait, let me get this right. You're saying I (as an atheist) serve satan? Does that not meant hat you are casting out my 'name as evil'? I guess I am blessed then...
This must be a joke. You can't be a Christian. Just somebody poking fun with a nice little parody. The persecuted Christian who's going around calling everybody evil and abusive... If so, it's amusing and sufficiently well done to sound real. But it's not a very pleasant thing to do. If it's no joke (which I fear is the case) then you're just some small minded hypocrite who needs to learn a few lessons from that bible you like to quote - something about turning the other cheek springs to mind. And of course let he who is without sin cast the first stone... You're clearly not that person. As you can see from all stones flying back at you.

I think that if you grow up with an open mind, then it can be more difficult to accept God or to deny God all together. You see if you really think about it, it can really confuse you, and it sometimes can get to your head. The whole ideology is absurd, the search of God.. is absurd. You see while many of us are raised into religious families, it is easier to accept something we have been taught our entire life. While on the other side, some parents may have not been as extreme with religion, allowing their child to form their own opinions. I don't know about you, but I grew up as an agnostic. I knew that there had to be some type of God out there, as I knew it not only in my mind, but my soul as well. BUT, I had no proof. And I figured that nobody could ever provide complete proof towards God, however after many years of spiritual searching I finally found an answer. Though I am a bit off topic, I suppose I should go ahead and conclude my answer. A close minded individual can easily accept something they don't completely understand based on their childhood. On the other hand, an individual who grows up with a more open mind may find that it is harder to just accept something that everyone else is accepting with no direct proof. However in the end, the close minded people will believe what they want to believe, and the open minded people will believe what they would like to believe. But that's just it, don't you see the beauty? That's the beauty of the order of theology, and the beauty of our human brain! Look at the world around you and you'll find that every individual is unique in their own way, weather if they believe in God or not.

I think any person who ridicules another person's system of belief just because it differs from their own instantly devalues their point. It is one thing to refute an argument but as soon as you descend the level of name-calling, you are not worth listening to. Unfortunately you have done exactly the same thing by accusing them of working for the powers of Evil, just because they don't agree with you.
I also think you have misinterpreted Luke. He was speaking to an audience that suffered a form of persecution that is completely unknown to modern Christians. I am shocked that you would use the word "persecution" to describe the petty insults of a small minority. I think the point Luke was trying to make was that what other men say should not matter. If you receive their blows with forgiveness and grace and live your life in a Christian manner you will be rewarded. Simply being exposed to abuse will not help you into heaven - only you can do that. As you've just judged an entire group of people based on the actions of a few idiots, whilst simultaneously accusing them of having truck with Satan, I wouldn't be counting on getting a nod from St. Peter.

How is saying that something that can not be proven to be real is somehow abuse? The idea that Christians have of unless you think as they do then YOU ARE PICKING ON THEM just show how they love to play the poor victim roll!
While I'm not an atheist but a Satanist I still take great delight in telling Christians how their fantasy God CAN NOT BE PROVEN to be real! How is this ABUSE when all I am doing is pointing out reality to them! Clearly they are not living in reality if they are begging an invisible man that no one has ever seen for special favors!
How does my saying your ideas are not based in reality going to help you get into a place that DOESN'T REALLY EXIST???
If it does exist then here is a novel idea. PROVE IT!!
SHOW IMPERICAL EVIDANCE to support your claims!
NOTE: The bible is NOT imperical evidance!!!

Im an 'atheist' but I dont worship satan, I don't worship anything, I like to believe what I want to believe and live my life the way I choose. Whats wrong with that? Also I don't take 'great delight in directing venomous ridicule and abuse at Christians,' I like understanding what others believe and will listen and talk. Let me tell you something though... it is Christians like you who group us 'atheists' toghether who deseve abuse because you don't listen or wana talk to other peoples VALID points of view.

Atheist's are constructive free-thinkers. This website is run by atheist's. Many of the worlds greatest achiever's are/were atheist's. The fact is people who have a religion can't achieve anything, they can't contribute anything to society or this world, so they bury their head in, say, the bible, and hide away, while at the same time they try to force the belief on the rest of us, and when they don't get their own way, they start a war. Religion kills people. Religion is outdated. This is the 21st century, religion is not needed anymore.

I wonder where you put me then as i lead a christian life and believe in that way of life without the religious beliefs. They say god gave his only son etc, but what about the thousands of British and Americans who gave their lives for us all to live in freedom during the world wars? many sons and daughters died for us, should we make another religion out of that?

Ah, yes. Much like how homosexuals should thank Christians for forcing them to pretend to be heterosexual and have children in order to avoid persecution for so many centuries which has kept the gene alive.

Wow. You really like to revel in your persecution fantasy. I suppose the more you think you "suffer" (ie: allowing other religions the same perks X-ians get, not having your supersittions validated by state law, not having your dogmas forced into science) the better your "reward".
"Persecution". Feh. I really doubt you know what the word really means.

I thank moronic Christians for getting me away from a world of anti-depressants and confusion and their rip-off artist pastors.
Had I not thrown away the Christian walk, I would still be believing the fantastic bull that they parrot to eachother like a broken record on a daily basis....and I would still not know who I am.
Thank you for asking, though.
