There is no requirement for currency on the checkride, however I'd recommend it. Your instrument rating will not be valid in a multi-engine airplane until you shoot a single engine approach (usually an ILS). This will actually GET you current if you are not already current. However, there is a big difference between current and proficient. Can you shoot a single-engine ILS to PTS standfards right now? go get current and practice this maneuiver prior to the checkride

There's no requirement for you to be Instrument current. The commercial checkride is a VFR checkride, unless you're taking a combined M/E Instrument/Commercial. If you are, that will get you current anyway!

Not to sound like a preacher, but if I've learned one thing over more than 45 years of flying, it is to remain current on your instruments. Even though you don't need that for this check ride you mention, you never know what the sky will throw at you.
