When I played softball in high school, before we had to run on the road our coach made us do shin splints. What you do is put your toes and the ball of your foot on the edge of something, i.e. stairs, door step something like that, with your heels hanging off and raise up like you were going to stand on your tippy toes. Do it for a few minutes and that is sapposed to losen up those muscles in the front of your legs. But i agree with the others, a good pair of shoes might be in order. But try that until they kinda start burning and the stop. It always help me. Hope it helps you.

my wife went through the same problem. Since you are on a treadmill you are trying to exercise/loose weight. The pain in your shins can be or become shinsplints. The only way to avoid the serious injury would be to stop the treadmill for at least a month. Continue to exercise by walking outdoors if possible. When you go back to the treadmill do so for limited times on limited days, say two on the tread and two outdoors. WALK on the treadmill and outdoors. We found that the protective lower leg hosery (anti-clotting) senior citizen knee-highs were effective in reducing the incidents of such incidents. When it occurs apply ice to both shins. Again, slow down the treadmill to a walking pace, jog on a rubber-based track (if you jog), and walk the neighborhood on the days you do not use the treadmill.

Shin pain in runners is most often caused by the shoes they are wearing. Find better shoes.
