For fairly objective information on many different religions:
http://www.religioustolerance.org
You might also try:
http://www.beliefnet.com
Religioustolerance.org is more of a point-by-point description of different faiths than Beliefnet.com, which is has more options for interacting with real people, such as forums and discussion groups.
Best of luck to you in your explorations!

I have no idea why they're like that except that they don't even know they're own history. If some people who claim to be Christians deny that Christmas, Easter and other symbols/traditions within their faith don't have a pagan base, they haven't done much learning about their own religion. I say this on a lot of answers, but I'll write it again: People don't know the real history and deny it because it's "wrong" in their religion and the ones that know it's rooted in paganism usually don't celebrate it. Christmas was the Winter Solstice, which was the birth of the Sun God and Easter is the fertility festival (which is why there's bunnies and eggs). People are ignorant - especially the ones who don't want to admit that the Church stole the pagan celebrations to convince people around the Middle Ages/Medieval period to convert to Christianity. Winter Solstice=Christmas, Spring Equinox=Easter, Goddess=Mary, God=Devil (the horned god was their inspiration for the pictures- if you read the Bible there are no descriptions of the devil besides things like "he has colors" and "he has eyes" and such vague things, so they made the pagan god into their devil), and the other gods/goddesses/heroes of the pagans became saints (such as Brigid, the Irish Fire Goddess, became St. Bridget)...I went to Catholic school for 5 years, I've read the Bible and I've done a lot of research on this subject and this is what I've drawn my conclusions to. And I believe I answered the previous question you are referring to as well ^o^ People are intolerant to what they don't understand. It's unfortunate, but true.

In addition to those mentioned here (religioustolerance.com, for example) this is a good site:
http://www.uri.org/Religions_and_Traditions.html
I heartily recommend that you pick up (or check out from your library) the "Sourcebook of the World's Religions". Each chapter on a religion is written by followers (usually clergy) of that religion, so the book doesn't have the kind of slant that you're trying to avoid.

Well, I suggest going to various sites that are biased and compare and contrast.
One can start with sites such as:
www.vatican.org for information on roman catholicism
www.sbc.net for southern baptist
www.jewfaq.org www.aish.com for Judaism
or simply place the name of the religion in google and see if there are some general sites.
