God has placed us on this earth for very specific reasons. He gives each of us a certain number of days on this earth. He has total control over when we come to this earth and when we leave. Every single one of us.
He has only commanded societies to be destroyed that were evil and not following his will. Individuals within that society will be judged on the same grounds that all people will be judged.
I think the big hangup that so many people have about this is that for many people they think that when you die there is no more. That is the end. This cannot be further from the truth. This life is such a small part of our existence. God will not take anyone away from the earth before his time. All, when they reach the judgment seat, will exclaim that God was more than fair and that God was more than merciful. All will be judged according to what they have been given.
Just because someone got caught in one of God's cleanings does not automatically mean that person is lost forever or even that that person was even evil.
When God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, He could only find a few souls worth saving. Lot and his family. What did God do? Told Lot to take his family and get out. Lot did that. But then he asked God, is there not a single other soul worth saving? God could not find one. Those two cities were destroyed along with Lot's wife who just couldn't let it go and started to go back.
Were there innocent little children in those cities? I am sure there were. They will not be held accountable for their parents' wickedness.

I have a wonderful verse for you chip- And it is about how God is righteous- man does not perceive God's righteousness the way he should.
God is Just and Holy and what He does is right. Even though it sounds unfair or mean to mankind--it is because you do not see how Holy God is and how His ways are just---you just see what does not please you- And that goes along with pride. Until that pride disappears, then you will understand why God is WHO He is! Psalm 19:8
The precepts of the LORD are right, giving joy to the heart. The commands of the LORD are radiant, giving light to the eyes.
Zephaniah 2:3
Seek the LORD, all you humble of the land, you who do what he commands. Seek righteousness, seek humility; perhaps you will be sheltered on the day of the LORD's anger.

We are not God, we're only human, and we are told not to muder each other, which seems perfectly logical to me. On the other hand, God is God, He makes the rules, so if He decides to kill, He most likely has a darn good reason.
A couple of places in the OT, God tells the tribes to kill entire towns. There is a theory, of course, again, I'm not God, so I really don't know, but the theory is that those towns were inhabited by nephilim (1/2 human and 1/2 angel), and that's why they needed gotten rid of. Nephilim were bigger, stronger, and smarter, we were no match for them, they would have taken over the world if not wiped out. The flood was suppose to have wiped them out, but apparently, some survived. Like I said, its a theory.

This is a question that you will never be able to understand until you understand the mind of God. I'm not going to ask you to read the bible to defend this statement. In fact, at one point in my life I totally used this argument also.
The difference now is, aside from the fact that I became a Christian three years ago, it makes far more sense now.
Let's put this in a modern day analogy for you:
We have terrorists who come in and blow up the World Trade Center. We are now hunting down and killing terrorists. This is to prevent our families, lives, value, and country from becoming extinct or perhaps controlled by someone we don't want running our lives.
The question now is, why don't we kill women and children presently? Well, we there are women terrorists and their are children who are being used in terror attacks. If these children aren't killed, but are raised with the terrorist mentality, what will they wind up being in 10 years? Terrorists.
The difference between us and God, is God was preventing the assimulation of pagan practices into the Jewish culture. He saw what would happen if he did not have every last enemy of a certain race removed from the picture.
If we could instantaneously remove every person who is a terrorist in the world, or who would become one, from the face of the earth by execution, how many of us would agree to do it?
Yes, I agree that the statement is difficult to swallow... and we may never understand the full answer, but I think this is as close as a valid argument as we are going to get while on this planet.

First of all, Chippy dear, the commandments were given to a rebellous nation to turn their hearts back to God. He knew they wouldn't be able to abide by them. Second, God is just and his judgement is final. When he told King David and others to wipe out a nation, it was because of their ungodliness and corruption. Third, Jesus hung on the cross, died, buried and rose again the third day. When he did this, the law was fulfilled. It also states that the law is not made for a righteous man but for the undgodly. I think that is clear when I read it. I don't have to abide by the old laws. And before a bunch of people go off on me, mainly religious people, the Holy Spirit, the promise of the Father, will not lead you to disobey God. Thanks for the question!

You seem to have the idea that any kind of "killing" is automatically murder. The Bible permits "killing" in several cases, such as self-defense. The most famous case of "murdering women and children" is the Amelekites. A tribe that lived OUTSIDE the area in which the Israelites were settling, they repeatedly attacked the Israelites, killing many.
In defense of the Isaelites, God permited them to attack back. But he put a condition of it. They were to take no prisoners and keep no wealth from the attack. He was trying to keep them from getting the idea that they could become wealthy by looting their neighbors.
However, the Israelites failed to obey that command. A descendent of the Amelekites who survived would reappear generations later and nearly bring about the destruction of the Jewish people at the time of Queen Esther.
Killing in defense is not murder.

The Bible was written by man to help mankind remember God. Its a book of stories. Some people found power in the Book and never went past it. The God in the Bibe is a reflection of it's authors. Move past them and allow yourself to experience the power of God the Creator. Inside.

Wel lthats a good question, but yoiu also have a misunderstanding of God. If you read the bible as you say, then maybe all your doing is reading it, and not understanding it. if you read, God says an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth. in other words, if you take one of my choosen people, i will take one of yours. true God says thou shall not kill. In other words, God is saying don't take a life just becuse you don't like someone, or just because you hate them etc.
But if they mean harm to you, and your life is in danger, then you have a right to defend yourself. If you house or country is invaded then you have the right to defend those around you.God dosen't want people to go around killing people, just because they can. But if you do it, do it for a reason.
which is confusing i know. as for killing of women and children , i understand how one may feel. but you don't understand the meaning behind the reason. but you are not saying what part of the bilbe you are refferring to. there could be differant reasons for differant times. for instance, if lets say, an army decides to kill all those who live in their country. and kill everyone including women and children. Is it fair to say you have a right to retaliate against those who persucuted you?
You need to understand the reason why God does what he does. common sense can answer that for you. If you look for faults in the bilbe, you will find them. Andof course if this dosen't seem right or that dosen't, then of course, you wil l start thinking that way. so you need to look beyond, and into the meaning. Sometimes, you have to start from the begining to find the answers. And yes sometimes you have to reread over and over again.

Yeah, you read the Bible. OK. You want justification for your Biblical ignoance. First, God doesn't murder, never, not once. But, He does kill. Second, He doesn't order His servants to murder, never, not once. (Unless you count Abraham and Isaac, and He stopped him from carrying it out). But, He did order them to kill.
They're two reasons to kill any living thing...only two. Food or defense. God's orders involved defense in the case of humans, and food in the case of animals.
That's what the Bible you claim to have read says.
Now, quit acting like you know something...you don't.

Since you are not of TheTrue Christian Faith why dont you just give your Bible to someone who can properly use it... There is nothing in The Bible for the non-believer... I don't care how long you have been reading it... The Bible is not intended for the non-believer... only those who are open to the leading of The Holy Spirit will find, in The Bible, what God has for them there.
There are people who have gone to "church" from the day they were born and read the bible daily who are not even close to being of The True Christian Faith... because they are not open to the leading of The Holy Spirit.... you clearly are not open to The Spirit as witnessed by your own words... so give it up... untill God decides to allow you to read you will have no understanding whatsoever of The True Christian Faith......The Bible is not for you
