By childish I mean they can't stand to see anyone here at work get ahead of them. Everyone is always telling on someone else for something like grade school kids. I swear it's like a 3rd grade class around here, yet we are all adults!! And this isn't an office full of women either, it's actually mostly men. Then everyone walks around all friendly "how ya doin?" to your face and will go in someone else's office and bad mouth you~What's up with adults acting like that????

this is very common and happens in nearly any professional setting you are in. speaking from experience, the more educated and intelligent the people you work with are, the less you will have to deal with this type of situation. it will still happen, but most intellectuals have their focus on something more significant.

you have to figure out how to ignore it. you'll learn soon to pay no attention to idiots and focus on your purpose while at work. if allowed, i would suggest getting headphones to block out the ignorance while at work. also, it's probably best to be an outcast or loner in that type of situation. i know that it is tempting to make work a social thing, but that gets in the way and when your work "friends" are taking credit for your accomplishment or ratting you out, you will be sorry.

If you depend on the opinion of your co-workers you need to look in a mirror. Their behavior is a reflection on their/your immediate supervisor and not you. Be the adult and not the child.
Plainly tell any person above your "supervisor's" level your dismay and observations. Describe the effect this behavior has had on your attitude and work performance. The look in the mirror will show that you are better than those around you. In due time you will, through hard work, the mentoring of a superior, become the supervisor that ends the nonsense.

As a man, I can tell you that any situation with more than one person (and some with just one) is COMPETITIVE. Most men thrive on competition and make things, even work, into some sort of a "game" which they can "play"! But even some women get in on this. My wife was lead bartender for a cocktail lounge in a large resort and tried to keep things working smoothly. The corporate setting does things to people and makes some of them bad-mouth their co-workers! It was constant turmoil and my wife got sick of running things and trying to work with so much going on behind everyone's backs. It is not just your co-workers. It happens everywhere. Your best defense is to work hard at your job and do it the best you can and try to promote the company!

Sounds like an extreme amount of hateration...i have worked in offices like that previously, i used to try to steer clear of the ones doing the button pushing. I am so glad that I am not the only one that think men can be b*tchy acting too, and It doesn't just apply to gay men in the office but also straight ones.

My work is the same.
I work part time. I used to only work on tuesdays and I worked with this person who I got along with fine. I started working another day when the owner is there and this same girl is now very jealous of me. Always making snide comments in front of the owner, and making "jokes' that are cut downs. All because of jealousy. I have more experience and more education than her and she is jealous.
I don't want to work like this but I think all places are like this.

Someone trying to get you to leave? They are telling you things.Go to the Human resource office and tell them your problem.Make sure to have a back up person to confirm your complaint. If nothing comes of that, just resign and state why in your resignation. That way they will give you a good word of recommendations.....Hope this helps.

I don't know but it happens everywhere. I guess it's one of the many reasons people say you never grow up. I even find myself doing it. By that I mean getting angry at some people I work with and talking about them to someone else just to vent. It's because people are freakin' ridiculous sometimes and I want them all to be like me...considerate! I'm freakin' fabulous, can't they treat others like that! ;)

do your work, make your money, mind your business and go home, enjoy a glass of wine, watch a good movie and cuddle in bed.

Who cares what people think, do and act. What matters most is you. Don't let others put you in a mood, wake up saying "today is going to be a great day!"
