Many sects appear to hardly touch the OT any more, Protestantism split off a long time ago...and in addition to the myriad of existing sects, new, more "specialized" sects seem to be always popping up, each with its own cherry-picked parts. Some preachers, like Joel Osteen, hardly even mention the Bible at all. Add to that, missionaries in non-xtian countries that have to dilute their "medicine" so that the natives will swallow.
Can the spread of xtianity ultimately cause its downfall? Thoughts please.
(p.s. this is one of those questions where Bible passages would be inappropriate)

Rostov: I was baptized, raised, studied, and confirmed Lutheran, which you might be surprised to know, kicked off the Protestant Revolution, so I know a little bit about it, but thanks for the advice.

I hate how overrated Christianity is. It's everywhere! And it's so in your face all the time.
I think it will.

This is more about the "spreading thin" of Christianity than about the "spreading of the faith"!
You pose a very interesting question.
It does seem that some sects and preachers want to "cherry-pick" the parts of the Bible they believe in. What do you believe in? Is the entire Bible relevant today? I think God has allowed this watering-down to happen. In my OPINION, it will lead to people hungering for "whole" food, for the entire WORD.
I believe Christianity is more about the relationship with Jesus than it is about preaching the Word, although the latter is necessary for "newbies" to hear about Jesus. God has allowed some of this watering-down to allow for changes in the ways things are taught as our societies change world-wide. In the end, Christ will be known to everyone. And when he comes back, there will be no equivocation about it!

I agree with you about what is happening in the Christian world. It is being diluted. The spread of true Christianity will only make it stronger. I question whether those diluting it are truly Christian or just out to make a buck?
It will get weaker and weaker all the time until Jesus does come back. Then it will become suddenly very strong. Stronger than it ever has been before.

Believers and those who only claim to be believers come in many forms. Each may claim to be something he is not, a believer possibly to avoid persecution. Do you rely on the genuineness of medicine simply by a claim of someone who you don't know whether you can trust or not? If you value Christianity, be more vigilant. If you don't, come clean and tell us straight out. If you want to know how to define a Christian, refer to the new testament. It tells you that it was the non-believers who called them Christians because they behaved as Christ did. It means 'little Christs'. Read how Jesus behaved and use that standard to determine who are true Christians. It is possible that you have met very few of them. It has always been that way.

I grew up Protestant United Methodist, my wife is Roman Catholic so I converted. I believe its worse than you say: Religion in general, not just christianity, but all religion has been "dumbed down" because the world as a whole is less intelligent. Over the last 50 years, because of many factors mainly television the internet and video games, People in all societies have become less literate and books have become passe'. Because people read very little and mainly watch television and movies, Churches have had to "dumb down" to the less cultured and less educated masses. If you go to many churches instead of passing out detailed well read prayers and liturgies they pass out the comic book version now!

well its in the new t that law is summarized into two commandments
most christians DO take from both but they emphasize some book more than others
Issaah, the Psamns, genesis, and exedus are emphasized.
protestants would mostly be very insulted by your statement
i recommend u go to some bible studies in a protestaznt church b4 u accuse.
o course depends the church. some modern churches liked united/prebaterian are less strict than say your avg baptist church.
seek and u will find.
dont confuse christian inspired culture w the religion tho. the fact is less ppl r religious because ppl are now freer to choose thann in previoius generations and thus atheism iis more obvioius

No, non-denominational Christianity (the original faith that Jesus had taught), and I don't mean Catholicism, remains a pretty strong force around the world, so please don't underestimate it's influence.
It is true, the sects of which you speak will be their own undoing because they do not follow the entire gospel as Jesus had intended.
You have to follow ALL of the teachings of Jesus and his apostles, not just the ones you're comfortable with.
GOD is the only one who knows where you are going after Christ's return because everyone will be judged and HE is that Judge. So you will either goto Heaven, paradise (on earth), or hell, it's up to HIM.

The spread of the type of Christianity you describe will be it's downfall. However God has promised that there will be a remnant in the last days who keep His commandments and have the testimony of His Son.

Like it or not as long as we have God's word in print and it can be shown if men tamper with it. There is a solid rock to tie faith to. So no, I don't believe that the Christian faith can be diluted into non-existence.. Those flybynight religions seem to come and go with the wind but faith in Christ goes on and on... Jim

Throughout recorded history, there has alwayas been a Jewish remnant in Israel.
The same will be true of the church: there will always be a remnant of true Believers.
The Church may get diluted and polluted, but the Gates of He|| shall not prevail against it.

First of all, any true understanding of Christianity balances the Old Testament with the New Testament. You must also read the Dead Sea Scrolls.
