I will give you some scriptures that the so called main-stream churches choose to ignore...
(1) Exodus 20: 4: "“You must not make for yourself a carved image or a form like anything that is in the heavens above or that is on the earth underneath or that is in the waters under the earth."
Would that not involve crosses, statues of such things as Mary, Saints, etc.? It would seem so.
(2)Most of the Churches say that we have a soul that lives on after the death of our bodies, but the bible says....
Ecclesiastes 9:5: "5 For the living are conscious that they will die; but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all, neither do they anymore have wages, because the remembrance of them has been forgotten."
Ecclesiastes 3:19 & 20: "19 For there is an eventuality as respects the sons of mankind and an eventuality as respects the beast, and they have the same eventuality. As the one dies, so the other dies; and they all have but one spirit, so that there is no superiority of the man over the beast, for everything is vanity. 20 All are going to one place. They have all come to be from the dust, and they are all returning to the dust."
Psalm 146:3 & 4: "Do not put YOUR trust in nobles,
Nor in the son of earthling man, to whom no salvation belongs.
4 His spirit goes out, he goes back to his ground;
In that day his thoughts do perish."
(3) The churches teach that we will live in heaven or hell, but the Bible says:
Psalm 37:9-11, 29: "For evildoers themselves will be cut off,
But those hoping in Jehovah are the ones that will possess the earth.
10 And just a little while longer, and the wicked one will be no more;
And you will certainly give attention to his place, and he will not be.
11 But the meek ones themselves will possess the earth,
And they will indeed find their exquisite delight in the abundance of peace."
29 The righteous themselves will possess the earth,
And they will reside forever upon it."
Matthew 5:5: "“Happy are the mild-tempered ones, since they will inherit the earth."
Well, those are just a few small examples of how main-stream religions have abused the Word of God, and your example of the Turin Shroud is just another example of venerating worship to an object!

Here are some thoughts:
Faith and science are two different spheres, one cannot be based on the other. Long ago, the Earth was proven to be round rather than flat, but the religions of the world did not collapse.
Christianity and other mainstream religions are aware of all kinds of religious texts, they cannot endorse them all.
The superstitious worship all kinds of silly things. Statuettes of angels seem to be quite the fad for idolatry.
People who have solid faith don't worship material objects. However, some people use some things as symbols to represent a metaphysical idea or to focus their attention. They may hold a cross, look at a statue, or think about a relic when they pray, but that doesn't mean they worship that object.

I love your example. A second examination of the Shroud have shown that the first test in in error and that any test will come up inconclusive. Because of the fire in the 16th century there is carbon in it from that date. Attempts were made to repair it at that time as well. The cloth has been shown to be on 1st century manufacture. In short there is reason to believe and reason to deny. A blanket statement calling it a fraud is in error as is your whole premise. Jim

bottom line, the clash, or conflict is always between the collective mind and the individual mind. The individual mind causes changes that threaten the collectivist. Be it a church or a political party. That is way pure hands off capitalism is the most ethical way to relate, it rewards the free mind. The other systems enslave it. I know it's not what you expected. But go with this and you will cause a ruckus, because it's true.

The Bible Code is something that many people believe in though it has been debunked many times over.
Evolution, including macro evolution, has been witnessed first-hand, and still religious people refuse to believe it.
There are many who think the Earth is only a few thousand years old, even though reams of evidence shows it to be billions.

Churchianity is a pagan religion. The Almighty YHVH set up a system. He sent His “Son” YAHOSHUA to die for the sins of mankind so they would not have to. (They could choose to, but did not have to). Any person who chooses not to allow Yahoshua to take care of their sins, chooses to remain attached to their sins. They thus will wind up in the lake of fire which is YHVH method of cleaning this world, and eliminating sin and sinners. The Creator set aside the Seventh day for rest and worship. Yes that is the day usually called “Saturday”. We are not saved by obedience, we are saved by faith. However we are saved FOR obedience. As He said in John 14:15 (and in many other places) “If you love me, keep my commandments.

You seem so hell bent on proving others wrong that it makes me think you are harboring some great fear about others finding out /proving that you are wrong. What you hate in others you see in yourself. Otherwise, why would you be wasting your time with this?
