I work for a water conditioning company and the worst type of water cooler is the type that has the bottles on top. Every time you hear glug glug that is air entering the bottle. This crates a situation of bacteria growth if not drank with in 3-4 days. And to answer the question yes they should be sanitized regularly. Drink up

most water coolers have a filtration system for pumping air through the water, just as your ice maker they need cleaning and sanitising at least once per week, the more bacteria is consumed in ice probaly than any other way, always check out the ice cubes in your favourite bar if it has air bubbles in the cube discard and tell the bar man to clean it, its not air but gas from the bacteria. regards LF

The one in our office is serviced once a month, it is part of our contract with the water company, mind you they use about half a bottle of water when they do it so make sure you always have a spare especially in warm weather

yes.

there should be an engineer from the water company that you rent cooler from to sanitise this.

stagnant water is disgusting. it can go slimy!

Don't think it's been serviced in the whole 7 years I've been there. Yuk.

in most offices....yeah right....
