I find it best not to clean the vomit right away, as you can actually work the particles deeper into the carpet. Cover the vomit with a newspaper or paper towel and let it dry. Then spray Wool-Lite on the area. However, instead of just letting the foam dry and vacuuming, as the directions say, work the foam into the carpet with a soaking wet paper towel. Use soft, circular motions. Repeat as many times as necessary. Then vacuum.

oxyclean spray works pretty good and its cheap!
