I know why. Definitely. Of course. It's because I'm always anxious in those kinds of situations, or any situations involving talking to someone or people. OR, I usually lick my lips so much, the skin on my lips is usually white and moist and comes of immediately, yet there are usually white specks from this left-over skin, and it's pretty embarrassing when I'm in front of people so I lick my lips (out of nervousness) even MORE which only intensifies the situation.

My lips usually bleed (without me noticing/feeling the blood) or are very sore, as they are now. I even do this without noticing, it's like an instinct, it's like breathing.

This horrific habit is ruining my social life more than it already is ruined, what can I do to stop it? How? Can anyone relate or has any other bad social habits? I'm 12 years old.

Pay attention to this. A habit only takes 30 days to form. It would be easier for you to break the habit at the age you are now than when you get older. Perhaps you could use lip balm. Carmex makes an excellent lip wax that will coat your lips and heal them at the same time. You should invest in some as soon as possible and try to work on the habit of biting them. Also, you are 12 years old, you don't have to worry about your social life until high school. Just relax around people, they are just like you are. Work on this everyday and you will soon notice that your lips will be nice and smooth again. Thank you and good luck.

I'm a skin specialist, and without going into great detail I can tell you that it is not good for the tissue under the skin, and can inflame it enough to cause fever blisters to rise.
I suggest you get a good lip skin conditioner or carmex to keep the skin conditioned.
During the time of anxiousness I suggest that you chew a sugar free gum, or keep a hard candy in your mouth so that you are thinking about something besides you lips.
It takes 6 weeks to 6 months to create a habit, and it takes that long to break the habit too.
I'm sure if you concentrate on doing the things I have suggested you will be habit free before you know it.

I do have a friend and a father that are older, and they still have this habit, and it is extremely hard for them to break it at their ages, and totally unbecoming.
Good Luck

I do the same thing! And here I thought I was the only one. I have some VERY thich chapstick next to my bed that I put on before I go to sleep, it helps to keep the moisture in and your lips feel much better the next day. Put it on through out the day. I am still somewhat bad about picking my lips, but whenever I start to I just remember how much they hurt. Good luck.

Get some carmex and use it regularly. Keep it in your mind that you won't do this anymore. You are ok-stop being hard on yourself. Maybe when you are not talking to someone you could keep your tongue on the roof of your mouth. Just pretend that it is super glued there unless you need to talk then talk then just press it to the roof of your mouth again until you talk again. Talk-put it away talk put it away talk put it away! Try it maybe it will help

Try a little bit of Oil of Clove on the lips. The clove taste will remind you to stop.

Youve got to stop doing that. It can lead to serious results : as infections or worst. Talk to your dr. or dentist. Maybe they can suggest something. But you must pray for the will-power to stop doing this. BettyK

My dad always told us to pee on your hand and rub it on your lips. It wont make your lips heal but you'll stop licking them.
