I read somewhere recently that Darkness and nothingness in the form of a Void existed before God made light...
(for those of you who don't believe in God... This is not the place to argue it, so lets just say hypothetically for you guys.) Stay on track and answer accordingly...
Was God evil before He became Good if He always was and always will be?
Was becoming a benevolent loving light filled creature a choice He made?
Was God evil before He decided to become Balanced with the addition of light, color, heat energy and spectrum?
and considering... Is evil (or darkness) older than good (or light)?

Why does darkness have to equate to evil?
As humans, we need darkness to be mentally stable.
Evil is an idea, darkness is a lack of radiation.

Sorry,
I am not a rabbi.
1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was[a] on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.
3 Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light. 4 And God saw the light, that it was good; and God divided the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. So the evening and the morning were the first day.
Clearly evil did not exist yet. As well, God was creating things and when he finishded, he would say it was good or bless it.

A lot of this seems to rest on the assumption that "darkness and nothingness" includes evil, and that light indicates "good". But a void is a void. Off-hand I don't know of any translations that imply it was a "bad" darkness. The dark can be seen as a safe place, if you think of things like the womb. I suppose one could further argue that good and evil were first defined with free will was put into the equation at the Garden of Eden.

Well, if you want a rabbinic response, they're going to tell you that the jews don't believe that darkness is evil.
They believe that darkness is where all things are created, which, btw, agrees with pagan belief. The Greeks were the ones to use dark versus light= evil versus good, so that's where the christians have gotten it.. certainly not from the Jews.

You say you read recently that darkness and nothingness in the form of a void existed before God made light.
How is it, that you are willing to believe mere mortal man's point of view, and yet fail to believe God who is infinite, and full of truth?

I believe that Darkness was truth , then, and existance, because God was not aware of it s own existance. And when it was, it shown bright.
