I would expect that a lot of it depends on the question. I know that whenever I take a strong biblical stand on some social issue, I get tons of thumbs downs.

I tend to thumbs down the trolls. Those who are merely trying to get a rise out of people, as opposed to answering legitimately.

Even if I disagree with a point of view, if someone has articulated their point well, they'll get a thumbs up, because their answer was thought out.

I like to use the thumbs up myself, it adds points to anyone that I give best answer to and I like the positive as apposed to the negative. The whole thing is kind of silly I suppose but it's right up there with all the other monkeys on my back, good God do I miss cigarettes and heroine!

closed minded people who are not interested in the answers that are given and sometimes if the answer has nothing to do with the question you'll see thumbs downs or religious people tend to thumbs down alot as well lol

I think small minded people use it the most. I think if we could conduct IQ testing on all the thumbs-downers we would find that the dimmest of us give the most thumbs down.

If you ask me, no answer is truely a "bad answer" unless it's unrelated to the question, or unnecessarily and blatently offensive. Even the unrelated answers are funny at times, and spam hasn't been a problem on the board.

Bad answers include those one- or two-word answers when a little elaboration is usually better.

I'm with Jim. I don't do thumbs down unless it is a really looonnggggg answer. Well sometimes I also give them on extremely racist and prejudicial posts.

I do.
I use it whenever I see a ridiculous response to a valid question. I don't use it when I disagree.. if it's a valid or thought provoking answer, I'll give it a thumbs up.

You know in advance if your answer is remotely critical of Christianity, even if it's a bit of tongue in cheek humour it's getting thumbs down.

I only use it when I'm deciding a best answer -- it gets the answers I'm not going to consider out of the way.
