Okay, I have a mom cat and two kittens (both males approx. 4 mo old). Anyway, this stray older male cat started coming around (most likely for the mom). I keep her inside now, but the stray male follows the kittens around. He'll walk with them or lay down in the same area with them.

Is this normal? Why is he doing this?

The very same thing happened to me several years ago. I had a small male kitten and his mom that I adopted. They lived in the house, and rarely went outside. Upon adopting them, I had the mother spayed. The kitten was just tiny so he would be neutered later. Later never happened, because a large male cat started hanging around. One day I was bringing groceries into the house, and the large male cat was in the yard. My small male kitten who was now about four months old, had been watching the large male cat through the window, and was quite curious. When I opened the door to bring groceries in, the kitten ran out. I called to him frantically, but he refused to acknowledge me at all. I watched as the to cats met face to face. Then, in horror, the large male cat jumped on the kitten and tore him to pieces. I grabbed a broom sitting on the porch, and tried to scare the big bully away, but he simply picked the kitten up in his mouth, and dragged him into the woods. I never saw the kitten again. I am told that large male cats will canvass the neighborhood and eliminate any possible rivals. Even though he may appear to be friendly now to your young male cats, all could change once they become old enough to breed. They will then be considered to be his competition, and he might kill them. Please take every precaution to prevent that from happening. Hope this helps.

Be VERY careful. Rogue tom cat males have been known to kill kittens, and in some cases, the father may also. I found my Bailey cat under a car and some neighborhood kids were chucking rocks at her. She was in bad shape, including, having part of her throat torn out most likely by a tom cat (so the vet said) To this day she cannot meow. She tries but nothing comes out and she has a few breathing issues. He could cause other issues as well such as fleas, feline leukemia (if he is positive).

He's probably just watching them. When I was younger we had a male cat then got a male kitten, the cat immediately started taking care of the kitten (cleaning him, sleeping next to him, ect) like it was his kitten. As long as he's not attacking them or anything then there isn't really anything to worry about. Make sure your cats get their shots and flea and tick protection if your going to let them out with the other cat.

Get your cat spayed if you don't want her to end up with more kittens, she'll probably try harder to get out when in heat.

I don't believe it is usual.
But sometimes males do gravitate to young ones of the same breed. Could he be Dad? Maybe he wants to be adopted by you since you seem to be a 'cat' house. It's how we adopted a couple strays, they just 'hung' around with the others.

I would be careful about letting them out together, as some Tom cats will try to kill kittens. They see them as a threat to them. It looks as though they do get along, but I would still be very cautious and bring them inside to be on the safe side.

Better watch that male. Male cats are very territorial and will end up killing those kittens, especially since they are also males.

What gender are the kittens? I would defnitley have them spayed immediatley if they are girls. If they're males, he may just want friends to kick it with.
