shortened version of Christian. Like x-mas.

Though it's usually used in a derogative way. (not that christians don't have their own slurs against non-believers).

It's shorthand for "Christian". It's an abbreviation that's been around for a few centuries, used by monks at some time.

The "X" is actually the Greek letter "Chi", the first word in Xpιστοσ ("Christos"), the Greek name for Christ. People who think abbreviations like "Xian" or "Xmas" are derrogatory need to read up on their history, which also includes the fact that the New Testament was first written in Greek.

X = Chi = Christ (in Greek)

Xian = Christian in the same sense that X-mas = Christmas.

xian = christian kind of like Xmas = Christmas

There are so many abbreviations and lazy spellings because of text messaging it can be hard to keep up.
