I am not Catholic, but I can tell you up front that there is no Scriptural call to pray to Mary or any other dead person. In fact, the Bible says not to pray to saints or angels or bow down before Idols. Only God is to be worshiped (1st Commandment). A person is to pray to the Father in the name of Jesus. Jesus said that if we ask anything in his name, then he will do it. Jesus prayed to his Father in heaven, not to his mother.

I am not presently Catholic; but I think I can address the above question. 1 Kings 2; Bathsheba takes Adonijah's request to King Solomon on Adonijah's behalf.
Is Jesus 'King of Kings'?
Is Mary the mother of the King?
Was Bathsheba the mother of King Solomon?
Was Bathsheba to decide the issue, or to take the issue to King Solomon?
May you receive a large plerasant surprise today toGod's glory!!!

its falsi idolotry... you shouldnt pray to anyone except god...and you should only pray in jesus name...
not mary's name, not saint anthony, not any other saints...
what are they going to do? its cant be anything god cant do, cause god can do all, so why do they worship other saints and mary before god.
There shouldnt be anything about metaphoiric anything... Jesus should be the one we boast about and worship... all mary did was listen to god, just like moses, and abraham, and job, and JESUS.
but mary did not save us from our sins. Just because she gave birth to him does not mean anything. god could have used anyone else in the world to do that.... she was no the only virgin at that time.
you are right when you say all we need is jesus to go to the father... and that is also why the bible is compiled to tell the truth to us.
You dont go to heaven by idolizing the ones who gave birth or followed the savior! You have to live the life of jesus and do god's will, the same one that was instilled into jesus christ!
If you dont know what it is, its jesus came here to save us from our sins... now its our job to lead people to jesus so he can keep doin that!

you opened the flood gate now....there is no scriptural backing for it....the bible calls it idolotry. Mary was nothing more than a woman that served a purpose for god obediently. She is no different than Moses, Abraham, David, Paul, or any other that hasfollowed the directions of God and his plan.

Luke 1:42 - "Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus." The phrase "blessed are you among women" really means "you are most blessed of all women." A circumlocution is used because there is no superlative in the Greek language. Note also that Elizabeth praises Mary first, and then Jesus. This is hyperdulia (but not latria which is worship owed to God alone). We too can go through Mary to praise Jesus. Finally, Catholics repeat these divinely inspired words of Elizabeth in the Rosary.
"All generations shall call me (Her) blessed"
And so....we do.

good luck. ive been asking this for past 3 days, and they beat around the bush. it boils down to the fact they dont know, and they make up excuses to speak with the dead.
infact in the bible it speaks AGAINST talking with the dead.
and sadly mary is not here today, therefore she is dead.

Pray means to entreat or implore, "to make a request in a humble manner", or "to address God or a god with adoration, confession, supplication, or thanksgiving". Since the Bible says we should "pray for one another" (James 5:16), we pray (implore) Mary to pray (address God) for us and with us.
