I was reading in a magazine about workout techniques and it kept saying "lift your tummy to your spine" how do you do that? I guess I just don't really understand what that really means.

I think its stressing the importance of using your stomach muscles in the exercise, so as you raise your spine, you are focusing on using your stomach muscles, not your back.

It should be "press your stomach against your spine". It's basically telling you to hold your abs in tight, so they don't just flop out with you contract. It's also meant to keep your lower back pressed against the floor, which is essential when you're working out your abs.

Pull your stomach in using stomach muscles. They just want you to think about it going toward your spine or toward your back so you are really using those muscles.
