when my step-dad would take down our pants and spank us with a belt! i thought it was the cruelest most humiliating form of punishment, and totally unnecessary

Mine were nothing compared to what I've read so far. I'd say the worst spanking I got was at the beach for running off. My parents thought they'd lost me, and let me know it. The worst part of it was the looks on everyones faces before the spanking even started.They all had that (poor thing) look going. All I can say is I earned it, and mine would get the same. My mom and dad, had no problem pulling down our pants and giving a bare bottom spanking right there on the spot if need be. I learned a huge lesson that day, and never did that again. As a mom, mine too, get the spankings in the same way.

I'd say being slugged in the jaw it messed it up. It caused TMJ. I was also abused as a kid and was hit with switches, belts, pans, wooden brushes, hangers and anything my mom could find to hit me. And with the belt if we moved guess where the belt landed. I took alot of those for my younger sisters. I got smacked one time by the belt buckle in the face while she was hitting my baby sister and it hurt so bad I actually got the strength to throw my mom down on the floor, put her in a choke hold, take the belt, stand over her and say if you Ever hit "us" again I'll kill you. Yep it was bad. I "had" to leave my sisters or I'd probably be in prison at 15 years old.
I do believe in disciplining your children but in other forms besides corpal punishment. If my kids get "out of control" a quick smack on the behind to put them back in check doesn't hurt them but triggers them to get right which is used rarely. I got blessed with normal kids behavior. Thank God!

I hated the belt more than anything, but a close second was having to choose my own switch!
I should add that being spanked didn't scar me - physically or emotionally. I had wonderful parents who did a good job keeping their discipline appropriate.

why oh why was I growing up in the 80's?!! My mom got us with her very "fashionable" plastic jelly shoes!! The worst I think was the sound of my father reaching for his belt. that sent my brother and I scrambling for cover. I can tell you that I hated my parents during those moments but I always loverd them afterward. Strange how resilient kids are. My kids aren't beaten but they have received very rare swats on the butt ( i can't count on one hand) and both of them have had the ear pull..."follow me and sit down cause you're about to hear it" routine.

I got the wooden spoon once for a having a temper tantrum at the store needless to say I never did that again!

i will never forget when my mom hit me over the head with a ketchup bottle, lets just say that the bottle busted and ketchup was all over the white curtains. I know she was regretting that one.

The way my father did it. He had a plastic belt and that thing hurt like hell but my dog jumped him once and he didn't do it any more.

my boyfriend actually told me once that his parents would take the blind twister and spank him... meaning those things that you have to twist in order to open your blinds, they would unhook them off of their window and spank him with it. he said it was the most painful thing.
