Fill in the blank with the correct value, and explain how you got your answer:

This problem was presented to 1,000 mathematicians at a recent conference. Not one of them figured it out....until the presenter said that "the average 3rd grader would have no problem figuring this out".....then most of them were able to arrive at the correct answer.

all rows have a some of digits = 12
2+5+5=12
6+2+4=12
7+3+2=12
so I guess 8x1=3 in this case

The answer is 8. The other three answers don't mean squat. Any third grader knows 8 x 1 = 8.

that dude is right the answer is that all the rows equal 12.
so the last problem reads like this,
8 x 1 x 3 =12

Edit: uhm, no, that's not it. Idk.
I just thought that if 2x5 was 10/2, then 8x1 would be 8/2...
