MRI Right Shoulder:
Technique - Multiplanar, multisequence MRI of right shoulder was obtained.
Findings: There are hypertrophic changes at the right AC joint with increased signal and small AC joint effusion. There is bone marrow edema of the acromion likely post tramuatic in nature. The rotator cuff is intact. The glenoid labrum is not well visualized by unremarkable. The biceps tendon is appropriately located in the bicipital groove.

Impression: Right acromioclavicular arthropathy and bone marrow edema of the acromion likely post traumatic in nature. No evidence of displacement of ac separation. Rotator cuff intact.

It means you have swelling stemming from after an injury to your shoulder. Otherwise they are not seeing any tears, rips or any bones out of place. You will be sore for awhile. The doctor may do steroid injections to help alleviate the edema (swelling) or he may put you on something by mouth to help with swelling and discomfort.

That would be how I would read that report.

hypertrophic changes are seen with degenerative joint disease. this is fron stresses on the joint through years of use. seen in most people over 40-50 years. the ac joint is the acromio-clavicular joint, not part of the moving shoulder joint. the labrum is oftan not well seen on mr unless contrast is injected into the joint space before the mr (not really necessary unless a labral unjury is suspected on physical exam. (the labrum is a rim of cartilage that stabilizes the shoulder in the joint)

impression: you banged your acromion. the ac joint is not torn. rest it. it will get better.

From what I can guess:
arthropathy is "joint disease" -very vague
You have swelling that is consistant with a recent injury "post traumatic" and your rotator cuff is normal

Usually MRIs are done to look at the rotator cuff to see if you need surgery to repair it. Did you recently injure it? Also, are you older (>50) the arthopathy may be related to age changes.

This seems like good news to me

Sounds like you hurt your shoulder but it will be O.K.
