Spirit Guides are not mentioned in the Catechism of the Catholic Church.

With love in Christ.

I don't know if I believe in guardian angels since we have the Holy Spirit and He is our comfort and guide. So what would be the purpose of a guardian angel?

As a Catholic Chirstian, you are treading on thin ice.

Belief in Angels, and thereby guardian angels is perfectly okay.

However, when you begin to belive in "spirit guides" you get into a realm of New Age mysticism.

Remember that guardian Angels are of God. Spirit guides may or may not be of God.

Pray about it, and let God teach you.

The CCC (Catechism of the Catholic Church) says that angels ARE spiritual creatures.

The CCC also says, in regard to angels:

"From its beginning until death, human life is surrounded by their watchful care and intercession. Beside each believer stands an angel as protector and shepherd leading him to life. Already here on earth the Christian life shares by faith in the blessed company of angels and men united in God."

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by "spiritual guides". But since angels are spiritual AND they are our protectors and shepherds, might they not also be considered "spiritual guides"?

You can read the rest of what the Catechism says about angels in the link below.
