You can buy Advantage at the vets office, without having the vet treat the cat. It's about $10 a month, and you just squeeze a few drops on the scruff of the cats neck once a month. Any flea that bites the cat will die, so it's not always neccesary to bomb your house.

Be careful of flea collars, they can make kitty kinida stoned from all of the chemicals they put in the collar. Also flea collars just make the fleas run to kitty's backside. Shampoos are just a plain waste of money for cats, plus how much do you really want to give kitty a bath?! You should try a product called frontline, you can get it from your vet, usually without bringing kitty in for a visit. The frontline is very easy to apply to the kitty, just break open the package of the medication, which comes in a small tube, and apply it to right between kitties shoulder blades right under the neck. Make sure that kitty doen't like it off. The frontline should start to kill the fleas in 24-48 hours. Make sure that you not only get rid of the fleas on kitty, but also in your house. Use foggers and carpet remedies for fleas, otherwise you will continue to have a flea problem. Good luck, fleas can be peskey little buggers!!!

Some store flea medications will make cats sick, and sometimes can be fatal. It is best to take your cat to the vet and get medication there. If the cat is an inside cat, you can probably get away with one application, which will probably cost about $10. Check with your vet for actual price. Also, by your cat having fleas, there could be a possibility that your cat has a tape worm, if he has ingested a flea that is infested. Ask your vet to check for that also. Humans can also get tape worms from animals with fleas that are infested with the parasite.

If you have treated your cat with store bought flea medications and you notice that your cat is sick or just laying around, a good way to get him better and to get the medication off of him is to give him a luke warm bath with dawn dish detergent.

A few years ago we got a cat for our kids from a pet store. He was full of fleas, I just bought some flea powder and flea shampoo, it worked got rid of all the fleas without spending money on a vet. Vets are very costly, when using the flea powder make sure that you rub in real good, separating the fur & in the ears too, be gentle but do every inch of him.Use the powder first then shampoo if nessary. I hope it helps, it did for us & ours was full of fleas.

The best flea medication is one that you can buy from the vet (stuff like Advantage or Frontline or Revolution - I use Advantage). Go to a Banfield vet at Petsmart and simply ask to buy some Advanatge for your cat (they sell them in packets or individually). They will just ask general info about your cat (age, weight, name) and dispense the flea med there and there. You just pay for the flea med - no consultation costs involved. When I bought mine, it coast me $12 or $13.00 for a single application (good for 1 month).

Follow the direction for application on your cat. But Advantage, Frontlne and Revolution are all applied the same way. You open the tiny tube and apply the liquid medication on the cat's nape where the cat cannot reach to lick it off.

If you have an adult cat and know its weight you can get Advantage or Frontline through the internet I think. I would never use it on a kitten without going through a vet.

Any shampoo (or Dawn dishsoap) will get the fleas off the cat temporarily because they drown in the water so I would not use a "flea shampoo" with medication in it.

Because your cat has had fleas he can get a tapeworm from their bites and that medication if only available through vets.

My cat was losing fur because of an allergic reaction to flea bites. I have trouble bathing him as well so the vet gave me a spray (sorry but I forget the name - it was technical sounding) which cost about $35 dollars but it lasts quite a while and worked wonderfully! I would suggest just calling a vet to save you the office visit cost and ask them what type of spray on flea killer they could provide you with. My vet had it in office.

Go to the vet and get Frontline or Advantix. They really work. DO NOT use the Hartz flea drops that you can buy in the store, it can be deadly! (see www.hartzvictims.org for more info on that). You should also treat the house and his/her bedding.

The Frontline is around 10 bucks a month but it is completely worth it since it really does work.

Good luck

Go to a vet & get Advantage for cats. Works great & fast. Good for at least 30 days. You need to do it fast because fleas can cause prolbems like anemia & skin rash

There are flea and tick collars you can buy, and there is also something called frontline that you squeeze down their back. However, if he comes in the house, you will have to treat your carpet for fleas as well, or the cat will just get them again.
