I read somewhere online to take Vitamin C until I get the diahrrea and then to back off, so I am wondering how much I would need to take to get sick. What are your thoughts on this method (please tell me if you don't agree but please keep positive)? I want to strengthen my immune system right now, so I am taking garlic tablets, echinacea capsules, Organic Apple Cider Vineager (Braggs), and Vitamin C, Silver, Cranberry capsules, acidopholus capsules. Anything else you can think of? I would love to hear your thoughts on this. Thanks!!!

You wouldn't be getting sick. You would just get diarrhea. Yes, holistic practitioners suggest you take 1 gm (1000 mg) every hour or two until you get diarrhea. Count how many you took and subtract one and that is how much Vitamin C you should get in one day. You will hear from naysayers, but smoking and stress and alcohol and not eating right and various other things deplete your system of Vitamin C and everyone is different, so this is one way to figure it out.
And, if you get a cold or virus, take 1 or 2 grams more a day during that time, then cut back when you start getting well.

i've seen a lot of pro vitamin c advice but some warn about kidney problems. My guess right now is just go for about 1000 IU a day.
Kyolic is a good garlic brand if you don't like raw; get the big bottles and it's fairly cheap.
Not sure about cider vinegar long term. Is your acidophilus the refrigerated kind? Yogurt maybe is better than non-refrigerated capsules. Try Kefir probiotic yogurt drink.
Calcium-magnesium and zinc intake is important.
Are you not taking a multivitamin? I like twinlabs. Quality matters.
It's easy to get your vitamin levels out of whack, whether you are taking stuff or not. Some vitamins block the absorption of others. Some vitamins are needed to absorb others. Everyone absorbs at different rates. Drink plenty of filtered water. This site is informative: http://www.acu-cell.com/
Fitness is key. Work on your posture.
Turn your shower to cold for 20 seconds when you shower. Good stuff.
Stretch your throat if it gets sore.

I take a lot of vitamins, too--particularly C--but I don't take every one every day. I take about 1,500 mg Vitamin C daily, and alternate between a multi and a B Complex daily. I drink cranberry juice, and echinacea tea, use calcium +vit D, use a lot of garlic almost every meal, and use cereals and SlimFast products that contain all the essential vitamins and minerals.
No one ever told me to take Vitamin C until I get diarrhea!
By the way, in the summertime, I take a lot less--but always take a multi and Calcium with D.

Many things destroy Vitamin C. if you smoke or drink alcohol you need at least 2000 per day. If you overdose you will get a rash. Start drinking Green Tea every day.

You should not take anything "until it makes you have diarrhea" on purpose. I have heard you cannot take too much Vitamin C, but I find it hard to believe that bringing your body to the brink of diarrhea is healthy.

You are far into the realm of the wierd. Real scientific evidence of the benefit of anything much past R.D.A. is lacking, or the R.D.A. would be changed. Trust your lymphocytes, lead a reasonable and healthy lifestyle, and save your money.
