A parable is simply a made up story told to illustrate a spiritual truth. Jesus often taught in parables. Matthew 13, Luke 15 and 16 are just some chapters that contain some of His parables. If you don't have an easy-to-understand study Bible, you can get one at a Christian bookstore, or contact me via e-mail and I will mail you one free.

Parable is a mystery of the Bible explained.
Types are shadows of future or past events explained by a life or story in the Bible, I can give you a few excellent examples from the Bible. But every story of the Bible does some how point to our Lord Jesus Christ. First and foremost is Jesus saying as Jonah was in belly of the fish three days so must the Son of man be in the belly of the earth. Jonah was a type of Jesus doing what Jesus did do; 1 Peter3:18For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:
19By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison; 20Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.
Every character of the Bible in some way did type and show something about Jesus coming to the earth.
Another very good example is Samson, he was probably the strongest man that ever did live, when the spirit of the Lord was upon him, and he was a Nazarene also, which was a vow to never drink wine, cut his hair, or touch anything dead. He was a man dedicated to God for life. All he did in his life was to kill Phillistines, and these people did represent something to mankind in their relationship to the Jews. Philistines do repesent a spiritual evil in our lifes today, this again is called a shadow. But the shadow or spirit the Philistines did represent to us was discouagement. And Samson married a Philistine girl, and she was named Delilah. She was a type of the church trying to kill her husband and learn the secrets of her husband's power so he could be killed. But in the end Samson was taken prisoner and his eyes were poked out and in a great hall was being made fun of. And even though he killed lots of Philistines in his life, by pulling down two great pillars of a building destroyed all the Philistine Nation's lords and a great number of people that had come to mock him. This is exactly what Jesus did in Hell when he met Satan and toke back the keys of Hell and Death, he destroyed the power of the Devil; Revelation 1:18 I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.
Jesus did speak in parables so the other people rather than the disciples would not understand his words;Matthew 13:13 Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand.
Mark 4:11 And he said unto them, Unto you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God: but unto them that are without, all these things are done in parables: 12 That seeing they may see, and not perceive; and hearing they may hear, and not understand; lest at any time they should be converted, and their sins should be forgiven them.

a parable is a story that teaches a lesson...there are religious parables from the bible such as the parable of the good samaritan and then there are non religious parables, much like aesop's fables...they are basic morality plays used to entertain as well as educate...

A parable is a story with meaning.
A type is a person (or thing) that represents something else (for example Joseph was a "type" of Jesus ---Joseph was sold by his brothers for silver...represents (or foreshadows) Jesus Christ was sold by his brothers (the Jews) for silver ---or Joseph provided bread to all the world...represents...Jesus - who is the bread of life...etc...)
