You're preaching to the choir buddy....... There are basically two kinds of people wearing tattoos. The type that picks their ink based on what everyone else has or thinks ....... If purple fuzzy dice tattoos were all the rage then these people would get fuzzy purple dice tattoos, if tribal chicken tracks were in, then you could expect them to get tribal chicken tracks..... ( just because everyone else has them) The other type doesn't give a *hit what is in style. They also DON'T go on-line asking other people what they should get tattooed on them....they get what they want to get (and for their own reasons)...and are usually happier with their tattoos in the long run

I think that tribal can be a nice filler or addition to SOME tattoos, but it seems like it's mostly used as an upper arm or lower back ("tramp stamp") tattoo. I remember when dolphins were the big thing (at least locally) in the '90s and most of those tattoos have faded (due to sun exposure, mostly) and look horrible. I'm surprised so many people don't know that they can get tattoo touch-ups.
Another thing that's all the rage nowadays is kanji when well over 95% of the people getting the tattoos don't know what the symbols mean other than what the flash sheet says is the translation.

i agree, tribal tattoos on people who obviously have no association with these "tribes" are really stupid in my opinion.
i don't understand why people think tattoos are a trend!!
tattoos are suppose to be personal, and mean something to the person wearing it, not just because "i thought these black squiggly lines would look cute on my lower back!"
"jdnsmama1" up there seems pretty upset for some reason, she must have a meaningless tribal tattoo.

It is their skin so honestly, I could care less. Some people just aren't creative.
When you think about it, it is kind of sad that they can't find one inspiration in their lives for a tattoo. Leaving them to pick out something meaningless on the wall to be permanently branded with just because it "looks cool." Like I said before.. it is their decision seeing how it is their skin.

If people wanna get flash art and cliche tattoos than that's what they want to do. I personally will not be doing that. I want to get something that has value to me. not because its "cool" to get a tattoo. Tattoos are gonna be on you forever, not many people think about that. Some people get the common butterfly or rose, and it has a story behind it, some meaning. I respect a tattoo more if it's done by a talented artist and has reason to it, not because they just wanted to get a tattoo.

I think it's appropriate to ask what a tattoo means to the person that has it. I have 4 tattoos and I love sharing why I got what I got and what it means to me. All four of mine stand for something.

There are some things that seem meaningless and while I don't like tribal and cultural tattoos on people who are obviously not from or associated to the culture, I realize that it's their skin and they have to live with it. I don't have to like their tattoos, I just have to love mine.
Remember, they got it for themselves, just let it be.

Personally, I am a little irked when people get a tattoo strictly for aesthetics. I don't understand why people do that considering that fashions do change and life should not revolve around it in the first place.
But I cannot say that I "hate" it. It is not my decision to get that tattoo, it is not my skin that bears the mark. Don't get me wrong, I love tattoos when they are menaingful. Yet, in the end, everyone is entitled to their own decisions.

i totally agree. unless you are from a heritage of people that have a tradition in tribal art you should not get that tattooed on you. it's not the most attractive tattoo, especially when it has not meaning to you or your "people". my artist won't tattoo tribal on anybody. all of my tattoos mean something to me, even if it seems like they don't.

It means something to that person, so no, it doesn't bother me. I have the Chinese Symbol for dragon and a Chinese-style dragon in purple tattooed on my arm. No, I'm not Chinese or a dragon or even year of the dragon, but it means a lot to me for my own reasons. My siblings who've seen it think it's Cool.
My best friend got a tat of a Rose with 2 smaller buds on it when her stepson, the oldest child died. Her other 2 children are living. It is cool cuz it means something to her.
