They have not named a specific "gene" that can make you alcoholic.
What they do know is that "genetics" do play a role in alcoholic behavior.
THere is a bit of "nature verses nourture," or "genetics verses environment." THere are lots of factors. Your relatives can pass down a gene that predisposes you to an adiction. I mean: your body can be wired to resond in such a way when alcohol is present. And, your body can have a low resistance level to alcohol. Some of it is environment, though. Just like behaviors that allow you to overeat, there are many behaviors that either encourage or condone alcoholism. While they say that "alcoholism" is a disease, it is one that you can choose its effect on your life. Since I know that alcoholism runs rampid in my family, I choose to make choices to minimize its presence in my life. Some diseases we have lots of control over and some we do not. We could let our depression spiral out of control or allow our diabetes to progress: or we could do all that we can to minimize the effects.
Scientists don't know what the gene is and furthermore, they don't know how to correct it.
More importantly, though, they have good advice on how not to get started with alcohol, especially if it is present in a family's history.

No just kidding alcholics run in the family, but i think you can choose the lifestyle you want to live. you dont have to let family and jeans govern you.
