I have read that the cyanide gas smells like Almonds. The pine smell is probably from a pine cleaner (Pinesol) used to clean the chamber. When people die they usually defecate and urinate as they loose control of those muscles/functions.

I was in a couple gas chambers when I was in the Marines 96-00. I don't remember a pine oil smell. However, the gas used in testing our masks was not lethal. So maybe lethal gas chambers smell like pine oil?

I never smelled pine oit that made my eyes tear, my nose run and my lungs burn. Denzel Washington must have been training for the Boy Scouts.

i would say that it probably depends on which kind of gas chamber you are talking about.
the original gas chambers used by the nazis were actually gas vans - where they would poison using the exhaust fumes from the van itself.
then the nazis decided to use a chemical called zyclon-b to in their gas chambers at auschwitz.
find out what that gas smells like, and you might have your answer...
