The best place for a new Christian to get answers is, God's word the Bible.

The Bible is God's Word to us.
It was written by human authors, under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit.

Above all you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet's own interpretation. For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit. 2 Peter 1:20-21. (New International Version)

Breakdown of the Bible
36 human authors inspired entirely by God over 1600 years.
66 separate books
39 Old Testament
Genesis- The creation of the world, sin, flood and birth of Israel
Exodus to Esther- History of the nation of Israel
Job to Proverbs- the books of poetry and wisdom
Isaiah to Malachi- Prophecy or foretelling of the future events to come.
27 New Testament
Matthew to John - Four Gospels representing the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ now with all authority in Heaven and earth.
Acts- Birth of the Church (The Bride of Christ)
Romans to Jude - Letters to the Churches
Revelations - The ultimate future plans for: The Church, Heaven, Hell, a New Heaven and a New Earth.

I would say no, because this website seems to be full of people who, although they claim to be all for tolerance, are incredibly hateful towards Christians.

Your best source of answers for any of your questions is the Word of God - your Bible. If you ask someone a question, then their reply should ALWAYS line up with His word. I couldn't get into the King James version, with the old english language, so I have turned to the NIV. Another really great version is an amplified bible. The original Greek and Hebrew words that the Bible was written in are both a beautiful form of language where the definaition can seem pretty straightforward, but there is can be underlying & deeper meanings to the words based upon which one is used (for example in the english language we use the word "love" and we mean affection for something or someone. Greek and Hebrew can have 10 different words for "love" and each one could mean a specific type of love - like brotherly love, love for a child, unconditional love). The amplified Bible puts in parenthesis the definition of a word the way the authors meant for it to be used - it brings a whole new level and greater understanding to the Bible.

Are you plugged in to a church? A lot of times they offer classes for new believers. There are also many small groups aimed at people from different backgrounds or interests (youth, single, etc...) where you could possibly find someone to help you along your walk. If not, I would recommend that you start to find a home church. Pray about it first and then start visiting churches until you find one that gives you a feeling that you are drawing closer to Him each time you go. When I was looking for a home church, I even "interviewed" the pastors to make sure that what they taught lined up with what I had read in the Word and that it was going to help me meet my spiritual needs.

If you want to start a dialogue about anything you have questions about, I am always open to discussion and to share my experiences. I became a believer 6 years ago, after living a long life without Him. I can honestly say that I will never go back to the life I use to live and can't imagine my life without Him in it.

Congratulations on finding the best relationship you will ever have in your life!

Well, keep this in mind:

ANYBODY can register an account and post answers here for free. That means you'll get a large and confusing mix of people, some of whom know what they're talking about, some who don't, views that run the entire range of religous conviction (which is why there are always so many arguments on general religion sites like this one), and plenty who can barely construct a coherant sentence.

Personally, when I want to talk about my own religion, I sure don't come here! I go to moderated forums that are specifically dedicated to discussion on my religion and no others. It's not because I can't hold my own in a debate; it's because that gets tiresome after a while.

Absolutely not. This is moreso a religious debate board than anything. You are talking to any and all religions here, many of which have no understanding of what you believe in. Yes, there are a few helpful people here, but because you are new, the angry ones will use your questions as fodder to confuse you so you question your decision. Some come flat out and basically call you an idiot for believing.

My suggestion is to find a group (Yahoo or MSN) that shares your values and opinions. IRL try to find a church that appeals to you and talk to the elders and ask for assistance. They can put you in touch with other members that can provide assistance on a one to one basis. Above and beyond that, don't be afraid to ask any and all questions you have. When you hear the answers, think about them and pray to see if this is what makes sense to your inner being. God Bless you and may your questions be answered with truth...

It depends on you. Some people use this forum just to antagonize others. Some people insult everybody regardless of beliefs. If you can handle people intentionally trying to offend you and others then it will work for you. There are plenty of honest sincere people who will try to give you honest answers. I also do not see why you should be afraid of seeing other viewpoints and beliefs. I am also Christian. If I was afraid to talk with non-Christians I would have to hide all day. That does not seem fun to me.

If you let the atheists have their way, no it's not a good forum. They always want to get in their worthless 2 cents worth.
But if you frequent this forum, you'll be able to weed out the bad advice (from non believers) from the good advice(from believers) . I wish you well in your new found faith . God bless.

This is not a good place of study for those new to the faith. The chance of being mislead is too great!!! There may be lessons to learn here, but only for those strengthened by the Holy Spirit!

The Forum is good but the Holy Bible is better. Some could become confused because there are many beliefs from the same Holy Book. But he knows ,who we are , we have been chosen before time, so he will lead us to the right answers. You know, try the spirit by the spirit.

Yahoo Answers is a great place to get a variety of perspectives and to see how many participants think like you do. If you are new to your religion and want to let those ideas set and harden in you before you are introduced to alternative beliefs or even just a new spin on your own faith - then this is not the place for you.

If you enjoy the subjects of Religion and Spirituality and want to participate with all the rich diversity of the Yahoo community in lively discussions about religious texts and the nature of existence, then this is a great place for you to learn more about your religion, yourself and the world around you!

Peace!

This forum is completely public. You will find the most ardent atheists here answering all kinds of questions about religion and spirituality. That should be sufficient to alert you to be skeptical about many of the "answers" some people provide when it comes to Christianity or ANY religion.
