So, all my life Ive been able to easily discern lies from truth. When someone lies to me, anyone, its really obvious and I hardly ever get fooled by them.

Also, I can discern peoples true intentions easily. Example: I was working for my familys (extended) company at a trade show for the week. They also had a guy working for them who was the pastors son. He was married, had two kids and the whole family really really liked him. Well, I never did. I always felt a little 'off' around him and expressed my concerns to my mom.
Turns out, two years later, he is in prison for child molestation.
Another example: a guy I work with seemed very nice, decent, kind, etc. Everyone really liked him and I had that same "off" feeling again. Turns out he got busted for tax evasion.
There are a ton more examples.

My mom is religious and believes I have the gift of discernment. What is this? Who else has this? Where did this originate from? Just some info on this gift? How to use it?

**Its not judging people. Its having a feeling that tends to be always right.
If I have a very negative vibe from someone, it turns out that there is always a reason I feel negativity.

Discernment is a clever disguise for judgment. Something Jesus cautioned us to avoid at all cost.

It is a gift and we should appreciate it and keep it stirred up (well we should keep all of our gifts stirred up). Our spiritual gifts are given as ministry tools. First of all, God has told us everything in His word. Second, because we have the indwelling of the Holy Spirit who also knows what God knows and who is the one who gives us our spiritual gifts, we are "listening"/surrendering to and acting on those unctions. It's really nothing we are "sensing" outside of the workings of the Holy Spirit. It may feel like it and some may insist that it IS a feeling but we are truly nothing in ourselves except what we are given. In short, it ain't us -- not really. That darkness/light that you "see" may be what the Holy Spirit knows you need to recognize something in a person (or a thing). "DISCERNMENT: 1 Cor. 12:10 - to clearly distinguish truth from error by judging whether the behavior or teaching is from God, Satan, human error, or human power" (See site below. Note: I have not read the entire site and statement of faith but this lists appears to be fairly complete. There are many gifts; unfortunately, some read 1 Corinthians 12 and limit God to only nine.) Use wisely and for as God's has purposed you. Blessings. [edit] ***Many mention using discernment as a "warning" or knowing good from bad, I have found it most useful for discerning those who need help and either don't know "how" to ask or have been rejected so much they have given up. It is a wonderful tool in pastoring and teaching--especially with the lost who do not know they have help available and waiting for them.*** x

Listen it's not about being religious, but Go gives each of us gifts. There is a spirit of discernment and it comes form God, how do I know this? Because God is the truth, and so with Him being truth, He has you in a position to actually see it, and to recognize when deception is present. I would try to go after God, not a religion, and let Him cultivate you for the gift He's giving you. Witht his power honey, God can put you in places where you can detect the tricks and plan of the enemies. If people will embrace what God has given them WOW, is all I can say.

I feel your ability is more a matter of intuition than discernment.

Discernment: the quality of being able to grasp and comprehend what is obscure.
Intuition: a form of instinctive knowing without the use of reasoning processes.

Discernment involves sorting through the clutter in our mind, ignoring all inappropriate thoughts, and actively(consciously) focusing on the answer the Holy Spirit is providing to a question or situation. Discernment involves rational analysis.

There seem to be no active thought leading to your conclusions, your ability seem to be more of an immediate apprehension of something being amiss involving gut level instinct.

I agree with MOST of what you say however I feel led to say a lot of what you felt and later turned out to be correct is nothing more than common scene.

The discernment you mentioned is given to us to (discern/know) the speaking of tongues if it's coming from the Holy Spirit and to testify it is in fact a real message.

You follow the vibe. A lot of people call it judgmental. Just don't care about it. It works for you, it protects you. Always listen to it. It has never served me wrong, and it is always accurate. The criticism you will receive may be great, if you tell people about a feeling you have, but when you are right, they will get over it.

I think your mom is right. It's the gift to be able to tell truth from error. You just automatically feel it inside you. I have it too. People will be saying something and it will just firmly come into my heart "that's not true," or "that's very true."

You develop the gift by trusting those feelings and acting on them, it shows God you will use the gift wisely and can be responsible for more.

I have this as well and it doesn't always make for a happy life, but it is a blessing. It's hard to get close to people when you can feel their true selves, but you'll have less drama so it balances out. I feel that the Holy Spirit is talking to me and I have learned to listen. Ask Jesus to show you what to do with this gift.

The difference from a lie and the truth. God is truth and HE is the only way for salvation. You know that this is the truth, but if someone says that There is another way, then U know that it is not the truth, then it is a lie. You have a gift from God to rightfully dicern light from darkness or righteousness from darkness. You can see through people and words. But this is only to be used for GOD.!! To be used for the Church.
I hope that this helps you.

God Bless

Hi, the gift of discernment comes from the Holy Spirit, and is given to faithful Christians for the betterment of their spiritual growth, those who are not believers do not have this gift although they may have a sharper sense of intuition, which is not the same.

I have intuition which seems to work just as well as your "gift of discernment".

Are you claiming that this "gift of discernment" is the same as having supernatural powers?

If this is the case, you are quite the pompous one, I have to say.

My dear, you've done nothing more than go with your gut. Keep with it as it helps you to steer clear from danger.

Can animals have this "gift of discernment"? They naturally are aware of danger, in that something just doesn't seem quite right.

There's much reading to do on this subject. I highly recommend this for you.

I hope this helped, Your Majesty!

Additions: Also, where is the word "vibe" in the bible? I didn't know Christians were able to have vibes.
