You'll have to learn to play the piano eventually. It'll be required for your major. Depending on the college, you might have to display piano skills. I recommend taking some lessons before you get to college. It'll be cheaper and you won't have to take Class Piano. All singers should have a basic knowledge of the fundamentals of music. And it doesn't hurt at all for them to play the piano, because then they can teach themselves their music. They won't depend on anyone else to teach them their music that way!

No, not for the vocal music audition. However, most music schools require their music majors, regardless of whether or not they sing or play an instrument, to take a piano class or piano lessons. If your goal is to become a teacher, you might have to pass a piano proficiency test as part of your degree program.

Hire a voice coach and the knowledge you will gain will be invaluable. You need someone other than yourself to gauge where you're at.

Also, contact the program that you're interested in. They can tell you for sure. You don't need to be enrolled in an institution to ask questions. Good luck : )
