My grandson has wanted to be a doctor since he was in the 4th grade. He is a junior now and he is still pursuing it. He is in all advanced classes and he took one of his college courses this past summer and is planning to do the same this summer. My brother thinks it would be good for him to take this test and maybe get his degree in the armed forces. Is there anyone who can give me more information on this? What would be the chances of him being sent to war?

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooo!. Go to college four years first, get accepted into a medical school, then join the Armed Forces (which is only one option out of many, that is if you do not have the money for school. Many hospitals will pay for med. school providing that he/she work for the hospital for few years after finishing med school VS the the Armed Forces where you have a chance of going to war anytime and where the mission comes first before any personal thing you have to do.) Do not let a recruiter fool you. Go to a local army base and speak to the young soldier. I had to get out to go to college. I am still a member of the armed forces

ASVAB is the basic battery of tests used by all branches of the military to determine qualifications.

The military as a rule does not train Doctors. Doctors already have their degrees when they join.

Chances of being sent to war are very slim unless he signs up for the Army or Marines and his specialty has something to do with combat. Tank Commander, Infantry, or Corpsman.

If he wants to do military service and be in a medical field I would say go Air Force. The chances are very slim he would be in a combat zone very much.

I really wish some of you would read. It's okay though, I don't think anyone really expects most on here to give an answer that actually makes sense.

Fifty percent of the US Army has NOT deployed. Chances of deployment are based more on assignment and occupational skill.

That means, if you're an infantryman in the 82d Airborne, YOU WILL GO TO IRAQ/AFGHANISTAN. If you're a PAC clerk in some theater support command... not so likely.

As far as the ASVAB, try www.military.com/asvab

It depends on which branch of the military he goes into. And the ASVAB is just an aptitude test to see how good u would be in certain areas, and the higher the score the more the recruiters that call.

Its a standard test and its pretty easy. I believe he needs to strive for a score in the mid 80's or higher in order to get into med training though. The only difficult part for me was the mechanics.

If he's in advanced classes...It'll be very easy for him...You can go to google and find pre-tests on the ASVAB for him. It depends on what branch he goes into, but most likely he'll be going to war...
