I've heard that the answer to "Militant Islam" is "Moderate Islam," but aren’t the only sources of authority in Islam the Koran and the Hadith? Historically, major changes to Christian philosophy and doctrine were achieved by Aquinas, Luther, Calvin, and Wesley. Where are the major texts and writers of this “Moderate” Islam? What were the changes and how do they condemn Muhammad’s martial legacy? Can Islam even be reformed, since Muhammad was the “last profit?” I'm not suggesting that Islam be destroyed, merely that all references to killing non-believers be removed, all exhortations to stone people be removed, all verses calling non-Muslims najjis be removed, all references to killing those who leave Islam be removed, all versus condoning the taxation and subjugation of Kafirs be removed, and all verses condoning woman beating/inferior female intellect be removed. After all, why should only the peaceful versus be taken at face value? Sound reasonable? (p.s. I'm an athiest)

Praise be to Allah.

ISLAM IS ISLAM.

Yes nothing is called moderate no militant Islam, NO EDITING in Qur'aan and Sunnah we do what ALLAH and prophet MOHAMMAD order us to do and leave what they order us to leave. And we will never corrupt nor edit our sources of enactment just for our whims as what's done with the bible.

I ask allah to guide you to his true religion, ISLAM.

I would rather be tortured and killed.

The problem in the "militant muslim" view is the way they are interpreting texts. It's not in the texts, or else "militant islam" would be the mainstream and not the less than 5% minority that it is. Most violence in Islam is not because of Islam, it's because of the condition of the people in that area. Poverty, Western Empirical history, foreign governments meddling in their affairs. This is the cause that pushes people to violence. It's the same in many poor countries with a similar history.

Your assumptions that Islam does promote open killing of non-muslims, and poor treatment of women are false. As for non-muslims being taxed to live under the protection of muslims, this is probably an ideal that the US should implement. US citizens should pay their full tax, illegal immigrants, non-US citizens, etc, should be required to pay a similar tax to enjoy the same social benefits of being here (schools, public service, and more.)

I am not a Muslim but, disagree that the Quran is the only violent sacred book. The Old Testament is of untold violence and people never think of reforming it, although to be fair a lot of it has fallen into disuse and oblivion. There are two main problems with Islam, one is Saudi Arabian Wahabism which is just about the harshest interpretation of the Quran ( of which I think Salafism is an even more extreme derivation) and the other is that any ignorant Dick and Harry can proclaim to be an Imam, especially in our West totally ignorant of what Islam is all about, who have let into Europe just about the dregs of Muslim rejects, who have no place in their own countries. Whatever the shortcomings of Islam and its more offensive aspects, the point is, why do we allow this sort of thing in European countries? The laws of individual countries must apply and not Sharia law. Islam does not need to reform, if we are determined that only our law shall apply in Europe !

If you read the Quaran verbatum, you might be surprised. The hate of some radical groups doesn't have any basis there. You DO NOT want to be fooled by fanatics who take words out of context. Someone could take things out of the Bible or any other book, put it into a context that wasn't intended, and make the Book sound fanatical and intolerant.

Take the story where Abraham is asked to sacrifice his son. If you don't include the end of this Bible story, you would be led to believe that God told him it murder his son.

There is a political agenda on the part of many people in this country to brand a whole group of people as evil. It justifies what they do out of greed. I'm including people like BILLY GRAHAM, who get huge donations from political figures. He was a great friend of Richard Nixon. God didn't tall anyone to vote for a candidate (least of all Nixon), that was a greedy human!!!

There's no more kooks in Islam than any other faith. You're listening to the media too much.

Look

In order to edit anything. Youd need to accept the fact that:

it doesnt have an author you can ask permission to

it should be played around with to suit peoples needs

If there is only One God. Does it make sense to you that people should play around and edit His message to suit their needs?

Hadeeth are truly human written.

But the Quran has been the same for the past 1400 years.

Im not a war mongering person. But if I thought, that people were seriously considering changing or editing the untouched word of God left on the entire planet, I would surely, most definitely, die trying to prevent it.

Also, it should serve as a food for thought that people have not been able to change a single word of the Quran and therefore have resorted to adding things into the Hadeeth to change the religion.

Cleaning out hadeeth that is extreme and contradicting the teachings of the Quran is a necessary job. As the Quran does not condone extremism.

Nope not one word. For one i would like to point out that Muslims are not supposed to separate and divide into sects ie moderates, militant, Sunni, shitte etc this goes against the teachings of Islam. I am a Muslim not proceeded with any word. No one has the authority to change one word of the Quran not a sentence not a word, never have and never will. You are stating things that true you have found in the Quran but you like plenty others always neglect to leave out other facts, YOU "kill those who leave Islam" ME " There is not compulsion in religion" YOU " inferior female intellect" ME" men and women are equal" " who do i respect first after Allah? Your mother, your mother, your mother then your father" You see for every negative thing you type there is always another to balance it. Killing infidels etc is referring to Muhammad and his followers defending themselves in battle does not mean, I as a Muslim have to go around killing anyone who is not Muslim, that's ridiculous. It also says to kill one person is like killing all of mankind.
One must study to know, know to understand and understand to judge. I see the point you are making but sorry it is simply not feasible to edit the word of God. As an atheist i see that statement means nothing to you as you dont believe there is one, but to believers of the true path your suggestion is simply not realistic or Halal.

Christians may have gotten their beliefs from other people, such as Luther, Calvin, etc, but this creates a secular religion, and in Islam it is prohibited to form sects. The reasons for dividing the groups is political differences, not religious. The killing of non-Muslims only refers to times of war. The Qur'an also says that if your enemy wishes peace, that it be granted for him. In other words, if someone attacks you, fight back; if someone asks forgiveness, forgive him.

As-Salaamu Alaikum - Peace be upon you

you are not fair, because modern christian did not edit their horrible bible, they just ignore it, that's why groups like opus dei may appear from time to time.
i don't think Islam needs reforming but needs to be purified. the way to do that is to end the corrupted groups; sunnies, shia, khawarej. we must go back to the pure group; mutazila. the earlier mutazila, who refused all hadith, and used only mind to understand Koran.

They can't change it. But they should learn to interpret it more closely. 'Unbelievers' originally referred to the local pagans that lived around Mecca and Medina. It should NOT be extended to people who do not worship statues or throw babies onto iron ovens. And it certainly should not be extended to the Jews or the People of the Book, who are supposed to be dealt with by Allah personally, without their interference.

It is a basic tenet of Islam that the Qur'an is the last word, and cannot be changed. But its interpretation could be changed, and on evidence, should be.
