drinks a few, i also smoke cigs, and have a nose ring(small flat stud) and a tattoo on my back, my boyfriends family is against all this but have not meet me yet. he says when we do meet that i shouldn't drink or smoke and take out my nose ring. should i do it for him or is he asking me to be someone i'm not.

I think you should leave your nose ring, but respect his wishes of you not smoking in his house or around it, and as far as the drinking goes I'd say to only drink in their presence if they are. Lets say the family is going to have some wine with dinner. Otherwise be and act yourself.

It's always alittle nerve racking to introduce your partner to parents for the first time, if you want to make that first meeting more comfortable for him, I would abide by his wishes! After they get to know and love you as he does, they won't care about the smoking, drinking, nose ring and tattoo. If you do this for him, your relationship will even be stronger. Who knows, maybe someday the situation will be reversed and you would want him to abide by your wishes too!

Having facial piercings is ridiculous. How many people do you see in the corporate world with blue hair, or eyebrow rings, or crap like that? Get rid of that stuff.
But, keep drinking and smoking.

leave in the nose ring, but don't smoke or drink in their house. if you do, it's like going into someone's house and pissing on their walls after they told you not to. other than that, just make pleasent conversation.

I wouldn't do it. Be yourself. Although, I wouldnt smoke in a non smokers home or drink in a dry home either. But leave in the piercing. It is who you are.

Upon 1st meeting you may want to be respectful of his wishes as he knows his parents better that you. why would you want to meet them looking like a drunk, smoking whore??? Let them figure that part out later on!!!

I say do it to impress his parents. Its also a respect thing to the older people. Ur not changing ur whole being, just changing a few accessories. If u love him ull do it.

if you are going to not drink smoke or wear your nose stud in front of them thats fine they mite appresheate you more for takeing there feelings into account but if your going to lie to them and tell them you dont drink or smoke then they are not going to no who you really are you will be somebody else if it was me i would have to be myself that means drink and smoke just dont do it in there face im not saying hide it from them but do it in a different room

he's not asking you to be someone you're not, his parents are. everyone has to censor themselves around their bf/gf's parents to some extent. hopefully once they get to know and like you, you will be able to show that side of yourself to them a little more, but for now go ahead and bend a little in front of them to avoid making trouble for you and your bf.
