How do I cite someone elses citation?

Question

I want to use a direct quote that is in an article. But that direct quote is by another person.
Ex: I am reading Brown's article. In Brown's article is a quote I would like to use in my paper. That quote is by Smith. Do I cite this quote as Smith even though I never read his book?
How do I quote this? Thank you-

wow, I though I was taught we could use it, but looks like I need the original source. Thank you.

academically you would need to seek out the original citation, or maybe you could get by with "Brown Quotes Smith as says..." etc but not in a good school.

I am giving u an answer in terms of your example... Thats how i do it usually.. To quote Smith (reference- Robert Brown, pg 123, line 3)
else To quote Smith (ref- Article published by Robert Brown/2nd feb 2007/the Deccan Herald/ Page 4):-

Smith, the original source, is better if you can find it (unless your point is not what Smith said, but what Brown BELIEVES Smith said). But if you can't get your hands on Smith's work, then cite it this way.

Smith, John, "Story of My Life," as cited in Brown, James, "A Dissertation on John Smith".

you don't that is sloppy. If you can't find the original source then don't use it. It may have been used out of context or otherwise improperly.

Best thing is if you can't find the original source then most likely nobody else can and can't claim plagerism when you use it as your own words. Not that I've ever done that.....

Are they passing it off as their own? Or are they acknoweldging your artwork? Answerers listed right here are affirming plagiarism yet i continually concept that replaced into extra to do with written artwork - ie. copying text textile off an author and the two passing it off as their own artwork or merely no longer acknowledging the unique author. If somebody is accomplishing an test in top the comparable way as you i might call them a undeniable and easy copycat without unique concept of their physique. merely my opinion.
