Hiya.

I am doing a review off this situation in UK jails and was looking for some more info on the subject.

What exactly is it and what is the conditions that people are claiming money over.

is there a certain amount of time you have had to endure these conditions in order to claim compensation?

Slopping out is when they go to the toilet in a bucket and have to slop it out the next time they are allowed out of their cells.
All prisons should have done away with this however some still use it and as they are not allowed they have to pay a fine, it seems that the fine is actually less than having the whole plumbing system put in throughout the cells.
Not sure how long inmates have to endure these conditions before they can claim.

Prisoners now get too many soft luxuries. Slopping out was clearing out your 'potty' each morning before they got built in toilets in the cell. Who else should have tipped it ? Prison was supposed to be a punishment ! What would happen if all the prisoners were made to work sewing mail bags in exchange for food and all telephone access, television and newspaper access was denied to them. Sentence reduction for ' good behaviour ' is a farce. If they do not behave, lock them in the cell and deny them visitor permits. Not many would return if the punishment was made to fit the crime !

Slopping out was a term for emptying your potty in the mornings, also getting a bowl of hot water to wash & shave ,they dont do it so much these days as they ar all ' en suite '.

no idea but if they are getting compensation then it should go to charity or to the people they harmed.

why the hell should they get money for certain conditions - and whos funding this compensation?
