Unless you have some surgery to remove fat, there is absolutely no way to drop 40 lbs.
The most drastic weight loss you can experience will start with water weight loss which would be around 3 pounds on average depending on the physical activity you will endure and your body itself. If you also combine that with lowering food intake you might lose another couple of pounds. But anything more would be impossible. Unless you stopped eating all together and then you put your life at risk.

The best way to lose weight that fast like you said is cut something off... in this case it might be your head! ... Seriously, a fasting diet can lose 15 to 20 pounds in the first week for someone who is overweight. After the third day you won't even be hungry. Many religions, and some doctors still believe in the power of fasting.... the problem here is not losing the weight... it is keeping the weight off. Most,,,,, will put it all back on plus extra after the fast. Try to think healthy, and change your life style of eating. Good Luck...

Are you OUT OF YOUR MIND? for you to have to ask us to give you "realistic" answers would mean you have to start thinking "realistic" about dropping 40 lbs in less than a week. IT'S NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. no matter what you do! As far as you not caring whether it's unhealthy or not will still NOT get you to where you want to be in 5 days. Weight loss takes a lot of hard work, patience, dedication & especially CARING whether it's "unhealthy" or not. For your information: the proper way to lose weight is maximum 2 lbs. per week, you will need to exercise EVERY DAY, drink lots of water, EAT healthier with fruits & vegetables, cut out junk foods & caffeine, sleep early, be stress free. Do not get anxious for it takes a lot of PATIENCE to lose this weight. You need to follow a healthy weight loss plan in order to reach your goal & accept the fact that's it's NOT going to happen in 5 days. If you start to think healthy & follow a healthy diet plan to include proper exercise & good eating habits, you should be able to reach your goal within 4 to 5 months.
GOOD LUCK!

Theres a way to calculate how much exercise you have to do in order to lose certain amt of pounds in a given day. however, im going to tell you this straight up. with only five days, there is no natural way you can drop 40 pounds in five days. Lets say you do cardio workout for five days straight without sleep and food, thn maybe you will lose half of that but it would put extreme stress on your body in general. longest a person has ever gone without sleep and survived is 10days. with no break, muscle breakdown would be more severe. Since muscle weighs more thn your fat, your going to lose a significant amt of muscle weight including your subcutaneous fat and visceral fat(not as much visceral since stress).you would look abnormal and sickly. i dont think anyone can pull off 5 days of cardio considering the fact that most americans have a hard time running for 15min straight.

Even if you ran 9/mph for 24 hours each day you would only burn 6 or 7 lbs, but I'm sure you'd end up in the hospital long before day's end.

In five days? I cannot think of any way to lose 40lbs in five days in a way that would not jeopardize your health. Take your time with it! If you have something coming up where you must lose it fast, I think you are out of luck this time around.

My husband lost 25 pounds in 5 days, but that's because he was in the hospital for internal bleeding and almost died.
