Really simple question... I want to buy a digital camera on eBay, but its internal memory and external memory are different makes. If I want to add extra memory, like an SD card or something, am I following the specifications for the internal memory (which is 32MB flash type 1) or its external memory (MMC or SD)?

As you have discovered, current digital cameras have two types of memory - internal and external. Internal memory is FIXED and cannot be changed. This is different from computers which have accessable internal memory. The only memory that can be swapped out on digital cameras is the external memory. Therefore the memory you should be looking at is the external memory.
